抓耶穌的人把他帶到大祭司該亞法那裏去，文士和長老已經在那裏聚集。彼得遠遠地跟着耶穌，直到大祭司的院子，進到裏面，就和警衛同坐，要看結局怎樣。祭司長和全議會尋找假見證控告耶穌，要處死他。雖然有好些人來作假見證，總找不到實據。最後有兩個人前來，說：「這個人曾說：『我能拆毀神的殿，三日內又建造起來。』」大祭司就站起來，對耶穌說：「這些人作證告你的事，你甚麼都不回答嗎？」耶穌卻不言語。大祭司對他說：「我指着永生神命令你起誓告訴我們，你是不是基督－神的兒子？」耶穌對他說：「你自己說了。然而，我告訴你們，此後你們要看見人子坐在權能者的右邊，駕着天上的雲來臨。」大祭司就撕裂衣服，說：「他說了褻瀆的話，我們何必再要證人呢？現在你們已經聽見他這褻瀆的話了。你們的意見如何？」他們回答：「他該處死。」他們就吐唾沫在他臉上，用拳頭打他，也有打他耳光的，說：「基督啊，向我們說預言吧！打你的是誰？」

一到早晨，眾祭司長、長老、文士，和全議會的人大家商議，就把耶穌綁着，解去，交給彼拉多。

他被欺壓受苦，卻不開口；他像羔羊被牽去宰殺，又像羊在剪毛的人手下無聲，他也是這樣不開口。

第二天，官長、長老和文士在耶路撒冷聚集，又有亞那大祭司、該亞法、約翰、亞歷山大，和大祭司的親族都在那裏。

那隊兵、千夫長和猶太人的警衛拿住耶穌，把他捆綁了，先帶到亞那面前，因為他是那年的大祭司該亞法的岳父。這該亞法就是從前向猶太人忠告說「一個人替百姓死是有利的」那個人。

那時，祭司長和百姓的長老聚集在那稱為該亞法的大祭司的院裏。

他們拿住耶穌，把他帶走，進入大祭司的住宅。彼得遠遠地跟着。他們在院子中間生了火，一同坐着，彼得也坐在他們當中。有一個使女看見彼得面向火光坐着，就定睛看他，說：「這個人素來也是同那人一起的。」彼得卻不承認，說：「你這個女人，我不認得他！」過了一會兒，又有一個人看見他，說：「你也是他們一夥的。」彼得說：「你這個人，我不是！」約過了一小時，又有一個人堅持說：「他實在是同那人一起的，因為他也是加利利人。」彼得說：「你這個人，我不知道你在說甚麼！」正說話之間，雞就叫了。主轉過身來看彼得，彼得就想起主對他所說的話：「今日雞叫以前，你要三次不認我。」他就出去痛哭。

於是，大祭司盤問耶穌有關他的門徒和他教導的事。耶穌回答他：「我一向都是公開地對世人講話，我常在會堂和聖殿裏，就是猶太人聚集的地方教導人，我私下並沒有講甚麼。你為甚麼問我呢？去問那些聽過我講話的人，我所說的，他們都知道。」耶穌說了這些話，旁邊站着的一個警衛打了他一耳光，說：「你這樣回答大祭司嗎？」耶穌回答他：「假如我說的不對，你指證不對的地方；假如我說的對，你為甚麼打我呢？」於是亞那把耶穌綁着押解到大祭司該亞法那裏。
