I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life
114:1 ver. 14:27; [ch. 16:22, 23; 1 Pet. 3:14] “Let not your hearts be troubled. 14:1 See ch. 12:44Believe in God;14:1 Or You believe in Godbelieve also in me.
2In 14:2 [ch. 2:16] my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that 14:2 ch. 16:7; [ch. 8:21, 22; 13:33, 36]I go to prepare a place for you?14:2 Or In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you
3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you 14:3 ver. 18, 28; [ch. 21:22, 23] to myself, that 14:3 See ch. 12:26where I am you may be also.
4And you know the way to where I am going.”14:4 Some manuscripts Where I am going you know, and the way you know
514:5 See ch. 11:16Thomas said to him, “Lord, 14:5 ch. 13:36we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”
6Jesus said to him, “I am 14:6 Heb. 9:8; 10:20; [Eph. 2:18] the way, and 14:6 ch. 1:14, 17; [1 John 5:20] the truth, and 14:6 See ch. 11:25the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
714:7 ch. 8:19If you had known me, you would have 14:7 1 John 2:13, 14known my Father also.14:7 Or If you know me, you will know my Father also, or If you have known me, you will know my Father alsoFrom now on you do know him and 14:7 [ch. 6:46]have seen him.”
814:8 ch. 1:43, 44; 12:21Philip said to him, “Lord, 14:8 [Ex. 33:18]show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”
9Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? 14:9 ch. 12:45; [ch. 10:30; 15:24; Col. 1:15; Heb. 1:3]Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
10Do you not believe that 14:10 See ch. 10:38I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you 14:10 See ch. 5:19, 20I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.
11Believe me that 14:11 [See ver. 10above] I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else 14:11 See ch. 5:36believe on account of the works themselves.
12“Truly, truly, I say to you, 14:12 [Matt. 17:20; 21:21; Mark 11:23; 16:17] whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I 14:12 ver. 14:28; ch. 16:28; [ch. 7:33; 13:1, 3; 16:5, 10, 17; 17:11, 13; 20:17]am going to the Father.
1314:13 ch. 15:16; 16:23, 24; See Matt. 7:7Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that 14:13 See ch. 13:31the Father may be glorified in the Son.
1414:14 [See ver. 13above]If you ask me14:14 Some manuscripts omit meanything in my name, I will do it.

23Jesus answered him, 14:23 See ver. 14:15, 21“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and 14:23 Rev. 3:20we will come to him and 14:23 [2 Cor. 6:16; 1 John 2:24]make our home with him.

29And 14:29 ch. 13:19; 16:4now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe.
30I will no longer talk much with you, for 14:30 See ch. 12:31the ruler of this world is coming. 14:30 [ch. 17:14; 18:36; Heb. 4:15]He has no claim on me,
