The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming— not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.

一方面，先前的诫命因软弱无能而废掉了，（律法本来就不能成就什么）；另一方面，一个更好的指望被引进来，靠这指望，我们就可以亲近神。

但现在基督已经来到，作了已实现的美事的大祭司，经过那更大更全备的帐幕，不是人手所造，也不是属于这世界的；

这样，照着天上样式做的物件必须用这些礼仪去洁净，但那天上的一切，自然当用更美的祭物去洁净。

圣灵藉此指明，第一层帐幕仍存在的时候，进入至圣所的路还没有显示。那第一层帐幕是现今时代的一个预表，表示所献的礼物和祭物都不能使敬拜的人在良心上得以完全。

他也无须多次将自己献上，像大祭司每年带着牛羊的血进入至圣所。

所有的祭司天天站着事奉神，屡次献上一样的祭物，这祭物永不能除罪。但基督献了一次永远有效的赎罪祭，就坐在神的右边，从此等候他的仇敌成为他的脚凳。因为他仅只一次献祭，就使那些得以成圣的人永远完全。圣灵也对我们作证，因为他说过：“主说：那些日子以后，我与他们所立的约是这样的：我要将我的律法放在他们的心上，又要写在他们的心思里。”并说：“他们的罪恶和他们的过犯，我绝不再记得。”这些罪过既已蒙赦免，就不用再为罪献祭了。

但是这些祭物使人每年都想起罪来，因为公牛和山羊的血不能除罪。
