“ Son of man, take a stick of wood and write on it,‘ Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another stick of wood, and write on it,‘ Belonging to Joseph( that is, to Ephraim) and all the Israelites associated with him.’

“ Son of man, get a stick of wood. Write on it,‘ Belonging to the tribe of Judah and the Israelites who are connected with it.’ Then get another stick. Write on it,‘ Ephraim’s stick. Belonging to the tribes of Joseph and all the Israelites connected with them.’

“ Son of man, take a stick and write on it,‘ For Judah, and the people of Israel associated with him’; then take another stick and write on it,‘ For Joseph( the stick of Ephraim) and all the house of Israel associated with him.’

“ Son of man, take a piece of wood and carve on it these words:‘ This represents Judah and its allied tribes.’ Then take another piece and carve these words on it:‘ This represents Ephraim and the northern tribes of Israel.’

“ Son of man, take a single stick and write on it: Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him. Then take another stick and write on it: Belonging to Joseph— the stick of Ephraim— and all the house of Israel associated with him.

“ Now you, son of man, take for yourself one stick and write on it,‘ For Judah and for the sons of Israel, his companions’; then take another stick and write on it,‘ For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and all the house of Israel, his companions.’

“ As for you, son of man, take a stick for yourself and write on it:‘ For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions.’ Then take another stick and write on it,‘ For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.’

以色列众人见王不依从他们，百姓就回话给王，说：“我们在大卫中有什么份呢？我们在耶西的儿子中没有产业！以色列啊，回你的帐棚去吧！大卫啊，现在你顾自己的家吧！”于是，以色列人都回自己的帐棚去了；至于住犹大城镇的以色列人，罗波安仍作他们的王。罗波安王派监管劳役的亚多兰去，以色列众人用石头打他，他就死了。罗波安王急忙上车，逃回耶路撒冷去了。这样，以色列背叛大卫家，直到今日。以色列众人听见耶罗波安回来了，就派人去请他到会众那里，立他作全以色列的王。除了犹大支派，没有跟从大卫家的。

罗波安又巩固这些堡垒，在其中安置军官，储备粮食、油和酒。他在各城里预备盾牌和枪，使城极其坚固。犹大和便雅悯都归了他。全以色列的祭司和利未人都从四方来归罗波安。利未人放弃他们的郊野和产业，来到犹大与耶路撒冷，因为耶罗波安和他的儿子拒绝他们，不许他们担任祭司事奉耶和华。耶罗波安为丘坛，为山羊鬼魔，为自己所造的牛犊设立祭司。以色列各支派中，凡立定心意寻求耶和华—以色列神的，都随从利未人来到耶路撒冷献祭给耶和华—他们列祖的神。这就巩固了犹大王国，使所罗门的儿子罗波安强盛三年，因为这三年他们遵行大卫和所罗门的道。

然而亚设、玛拿西、西布伦中也有人谦卑自己，来到耶路撒冷。神也按手在犹大人身上，使他们一心遵行王与众领袖照着耶和华的话所发的命令。二月时，许多百姓聚集在耶路撒冷，成为一个盛大的会，要守除酵节。他们起来，把耶路撒冷的祭坛和烧香的坛尽都除去，扔在汲沦溪中。二月十四日，他们宰了逾越节的羔羊。祭司与利未人觉得惭愧，就使自己分别为圣，把燔祭奉到耶和华的殿中。他们遵照神人摩西的律法，按定例站在自己的地方；祭司从利未人手里接过血来，洒出去。会众中有许多人尚未分别为圣，所以利未人为所有不洁的人宰逾越节的羔羊，使他们归耶和华为圣。从以法莲、玛拿西、以萨迦、西布伦来的许多百姓尚未自洁，他们却吃逾越节的羔羊，不合所写的条例。希西家为他们祷告说：“求至善的耶和华饶恕
