后来那穷人死了，被天使们带到亚伯拉罕的怀里。接着，那财主也死了，并且被埋葬了。财主在阴间的痛苦中，举目远远地望见亚伯拉罕，又望见拉撒路在他怀里，就呼唤说：‘我父亚伯拉罕，可怜我吧！请打发拉撒路用指头蘸点水，凉一下我的舌头吧，因为我在这火焰里，极其痛苦！’“可是亚伯拉罕说：‘孩子啊，你当想起，你一生怎样享了你的福，而拉撒路怎样受了苦；但如今他在这里受到安慰，你却在痛苦中。这一切之外，在我们和你们之间，隔着巨大的深渊，所以人想要从这边过到你们那边是不可能的，从那边过到我们这边也是不可能的。’

现在斧子已经放在树根上，所有不结好果子的树都要被砍下来，被丢进火里。
