蓋監督必無可責、如上帝家宰、不自恃、不輕怒、不酗酒、不毆擊、不黷貨、

會督必無間然、為上帝家宰、不偏執、不易怒、勿酗、勿競、非義之利勿取、

伊毘司可普、伊毘司可普見腓立比一章一節小註既為天主之家宰、當無可責、不偏執、不遽怒、不好酒、不毆擊、不貪財、

蓋司牧乃天主之家宰、是宜無懈可擊、毋剛愎自用、毋暴氣動怒。凡嗜酒毆人、貪婪財貨、皆非所宜。

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless— not overbearing, not quick- tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.

A church leader takes care of God’s family. That’s why he must be without blame. He must not look after only his own interests. He must not get angry easily. He must not get drunk. He must not push people around. He must not try to get money by cheating people.

For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain,

A church leader is a manager of God’s household, so he must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money.

For the overseer must be beyond reproach as God’s steward, not self willed, not quick tempered, not overindulging in wine, not a bully, not greedy for money,

For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,

For the bishop must be blameless, as God’s steward; not self- willed, not soon angry, no brawler, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre;

For an overseer, as God’s administrator, must be blameless, not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not addicted to wine, not a bully, not greedy for money,

For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

For the overseer must be blameless as one entrusted with God’s work, not arrogant, not prone to anger, not a drunkard, not violent, not greedy for gain.

For the overseer must be blameless, as God’s steward, not self- pleasing, not easily angered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain;

especially those who follow the polluting desires of the flesh and despise authority. Bold, arrogant people! They are not afraid to slander the glorious ones;

Shepherd God’s flock among you, not overseeing out of compulsion but willingly, as God would have you; not out of greed for money but eagerly;

The Lord said,“ Who then is the faithful and sensible manager his master will put in charge of his household servants to give them their allotted food at the proper time?

Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God.

And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit:

Even these stagger because of wine and stumble under the influence of beer: Priest and prophet stagger because of beer. They are confused by wine. They stumble because of beer. They are muddled in their visions. They stumble in their judgments.

“ You and your sons are not to drink wine or beer when you enter the tent of meeting, or else you will die; this is a permanent statute throughout your generations.

No priest may drink wine before he enters the inner court.

Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus: To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, including the overseers and deacons.

Israel’s watchmen are blind, all of them, they know nothing; all of them are mute dogs, they cannot bark; they dream, lie down, and love to sleep.These dogs have fierce appetites; they never have enough. And they are shepherds who have no discernment; all of them turn to their own way, every last one for his own profit.“ Come, let me get some wine, let’s guzzle some beer; and tomorrow will be like today, only far better!”

My dear brothers and sisters, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger,for human anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness.

A quick-tempered person acts foolishly, and one who schemes is hated.

Don’t let your spirit rush to be angry, for anger abides in the heart of fools.

A person should think of us in this way: as servants of Christ and managers of the mysteries of God.In this regard, it is required that managers be found faithful.

This saying is trustworthy:“ If anyone aspires to be an overseer, he desires a noble work.”An overseer, therefore, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, self-controlled, sensible, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,not an excessive drinker, not a bully but gentle, not quarrelsome, not greedy.He must manage his own household competently and have his children under control with all dignity.( If anyone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of God’s church?)He must not be a new convert, or he might become conceited and incur the same condemnation as the devil.Furthermore, he must have a good reputation among outsiders, so that he does not fall into disgrace and the devil’s trap.Deacons, likewise, should be worthy of respect, not hypocritical, not drinking a lot of wine, not greedy for money,holding the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.They must also be tested first; if they prove blameless, then they can serve as deacons.Wives, likewise, should be worthy of respect, not slanderers, self-controlled, faithful in everything.Deacons are to be husbands of one wife, managing their children and their own households competently.For those who have served well as deacons acquire a good standing for themselves and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

The Lord’s servant must not quarrel, but must be gentle to everyone, able to teach, and patient,instructing his opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance leading them to the knowledge of the truth.

May I never enter their council; may I never join their assembly. For in their anger they kill men, and on a whim they hamstring oxen.

“ Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master has put in charge of his household, to give them food at the proper time?

In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not slaves to excessive drinking. They are to teach what is good,

A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but one slow to anger calms strife.

The reason I left you in Crete was to set right what was left undone and, as I directed you, to appoint elders in every town.

Patience is better than power, and controlling one’s emotions, than capturing a city.

It is not for kings, Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine or for rulers to desire beer.Otherwise, he will drink, forget what is decreed, and pervert justice for all the oppressed.
