其人選務求品格純粹、無瑕可指、一婦之夫、兒女奉主、無蕩檢不馴之稱。

An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

An elder must be without blame. He must be faithful to his wife. His children must be believers. They must not give anyone a reason to say that they are wild and don’t obey.

An overseer, therefore, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, self-controlled, sensible, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,not an excessive drinker, not a bully but gentle, not quarrelsome, not greedy.He must manage his own household competently and have his children under control with all dignity.( If anyone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of God’s church?)He must not be a new convert, or he might become conceited and incur the same condemnation as the devil.Furthermore, he must have a good reputation among outsiders, so that he does not fall into disgrace and the devil’s trap.

Deacons are to be husbands of one wife, managing their children and their own households competently.

An elder must be blameless, the husband of one wife, with faithful children who are not accused of wildness or rebellion.As an overseer of God’s household, he must be blameless, not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not an excessive drinker, not a bully, not greedy for money,but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, righteous, holy, self-controlled,

For there are many rebellious people, full of empty talk and deception, especially those from the circumcision party.

He is not to marry a widow or a divorced woman, but may marry only a virgin from the offspring of the house of Israel, or a widow who is the widow of a priest.

They are not to marry a woman defiled by prostitution. They are not to marry one divorced by her husband, for the priest is holy to his God.

And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit:

And we exhort you, brothers and sisters: warn those who are idle, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone.

On that day I will carry out against Eli everything I said about his family, from beginning to end.I told him that I am going to judge his family forever because of the iniquity he knows about: his sons are cursing God, and he has not stopped them.

A discerning son keeps the law, but a companion of gluttons humiliates his father.

Why, then, do all of you despise my sacrifices and offerings that I require at the place of worship? You have honored your sons more than me, by making yourselves fat with the best part of all of the offerings of my people Israel.’“ Therefore, this is the declaration of the LORD, the God of Israel:‘ I did say that your family and your forefather’s family would walk before me forever. But now,’ this is the LORD’s declaration,‘ no longer! For those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disgraced.

Now Eli was very old. He heard about everything his sons were doing to all Israel and how they were sleeping with the women who served at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

Didn’t God make them one and give them a portion of spirit? What is the one seeking? Godly offspring. So watch yourselves carefully, so that no one acts treacherously against the wife of his youth.

In the days of King Herod of Judea, there was a priest of Abijah’s division named Zechariah. His wife was from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
