For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about; but not before God.

If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about— but not before God.

Did he become right with God because of something he did? If so, he could brag about it. But he couldn’t brag to God.

For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.

If his good deeds had made him acceptable to God, he would have had something to boast about. But that was not God’s way.

If I have to boast, I will boast of what pertains to my weakness.

and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,

Joshua said to all the people,“ This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says:‘ From ancient times your fathers lived beyond the Euphrates River, namely, Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, and they served other gods.

This is what the Lord says:“ Let no wise man boast of his wisdom, nor let the mighty man boast of his might, nor a rich man boast of his riches;but let the one who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises mercy, justice, and righteousness on the earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord.

and when the Egyptians see you, they will say,‘ This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live.Please say that you are my sister so that it may go well for me because of you, and that I may live on account of you.”

Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him,“ What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me things that ought not to be done.”And Abimelech said to Abraham,“ What have you encountered, that you have done this thing?”Abraham said,“ Because I thought, surely there is no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.Besides, she actually is my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife;and it came about, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said to her,‘ This is the kindness which you will show to me: everywhere we go, say of me,“ He is my brother.” ’ ”

Then Pharaoh called Abram and said,“ What is this that you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?

For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast about, for I am under compulsion; for woe to me if I do not preach the gospel.

For who considers you as superior? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?

not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

because by the works of the Law none of mankind will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes knowledge of sin.But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,but it is the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction,for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus,whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in God’s merciful restraint He let the sins previously committed go unpunished;for the demonstration, that is, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.Where then is boasting? It has been excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.

And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they escorted him away, with his wife and all that belonged to him.

Therefore in Christ Jesus I have found reason for boasting in things pertaining to God.

We are not commending ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to be proud of us, so that you will have an answer for those who take pride in appearance and not in heart.

so that no human may boast before God.

Then He said to me,“ Go in and see the wicked abominations that they are committing here.”

For those who are circumcised do not even keep the Law themselves, but they want to have you circumcised so that they may boast in your flesh.But far be it from me to boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

But the Scripture has confined everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

Boasting is necessary, though it is not beneficial; but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord.I know a man in Christ, who fourteen years ago— whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knows— such a man was caught up to the third heaven.And I know how such a man— whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, God knows—was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which a man is not permitted to speak.In behalf of such a man I will boast; but in my own behalf I will not boast, except regarding my weaknesses.For if I do wish to boast I will not be foolish, for I will be speaking the truth; but I refrain from this, so that no one will credit me with more than he sees in me or hears from me.Because of the extraordinary greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me— to keep me from exalting myself!Concerning this I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might leave me.And He has said to me,“ My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

But what I am doing I will also continue to do, so that I may eliminate the opportunity from those who want an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the matter about which they are boasting.
