What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found?

如是、試問我祖亞伯拉罕依其形軀所得者、何耶、

曰、何以稱之、吾祖亞伯拉罕徒事儀文、有所得乎、

然則我祖亞伯拉罕、我儕可謂其以本身所行者以本身所行者原文作循肉體何所得乎、

即就吾祖亞伯漢而論、若祇憑其本身之智力、亦何所得乎？

What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, discovered in this matter?

What should we say about these things? What did Abraham, the father of our people, discover about being right with God?

What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh?

Abraham was, humanly speaking, the founder of our Jewish nation. What did he discover about being made right with God?

What then will we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found?

What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh?

What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, hath found according to the flesh?

What then can we say that Abraham, our physical ancestor, has found?

What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

What then shall we say that Abraham, our ancestor according to the flesh, has discovered regarding this matter?

What then will we say that Abraham, our forefather, has found according to the flesh?

For this reason it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all the descendants, not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all,

Look to Abraham your father And to Sarah who gave birth to you in pain; When he was only one I called him, Then I blessed him and multiplied him.”

Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I.

They answered Him,“ We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say,‘ You will become free’?”

And he cried out and said,‘ Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.’But Abraham said,‘ Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony.

“ Brothers, sons of Abraham’s family, and those among you who fear God, to us the message of this salvation has been sent.

Therefore produce fruits that are consistent with repentance, and do not start saying to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father,’ for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children for Abraham.

Your father Abraham was overjoyed that he would see My day, and he saw it and rejoiced.”

What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Far from it! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said,“ You shall not covet.”

I know that you are Abraham’s descendants; yet you are seeking to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.I speak of the things which I have seen with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from your father.”They answered and said to Him,“ Abraham is our father.” Jesus* said to them,“ If you are Abraham’s children, do the deeds of Abraham.But as it is, you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do.You are doing the deeds of your father.” They said to Him,“ We were not born as a result of sexual immorality; we have one Father: God.”

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

But Abraham* said,‘ They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’But he said,‘ No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’But he said to him,‘ If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’ ”

You are not greater than our father Abraham, who died, are You? The prophets died too. Whom do You make Yourself out to be?”

and do not assume that you can say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father’; for I tell you that God is able, from these stones, to raise up children for Abraham.

Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?

What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?
