For the dead do not remember you. Who can praise you from the grave?

“ What will you gain if I die, if I sink into the grave? Can my dust praise you? Can it tell of your faithfulness?

For the dead cannot praise you; they cannot raise their voices in praise. Those who go down to the grave can no longer hope in your faithfulness.Only the living can praise you as I do today. Each generation tells of your faithfulness to the next.

“ Even a tree has more hope! If it is cut down, it will sprout again and grow new branches.Though its roots have grown old in the earth and its stump decays,at the scent of water it will bud and sprout again like a new seedling.“ But when people die, their strength is gone. They breathe their last, and then where are they?As water evaporates from a lake and a river disappears in drought,people are laid to rest and do not rise again. Until the heavens are no more, they will not wake up nor be roused from their sleep.

But those who die in the Lord will live; their bodies will rise again! Those who sleep in the earth will rise up and sing for joy! For your life giving light will fall like dew on your people in the place of the dead!

A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow’s only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her.When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion.“ Don’t cry!” he said.Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped.“ Young man,” he said,“ I tell you, get up.”Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.Great fear swept the crowd, and they praised God, saying,“ A mighty prophet has risen among us,” and“ God has visited his people today.”

The dead cannot sing praises to the Lord, for they have gone into the silence of the grave.

While he was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. They told him,“ Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus,“ Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.”

It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed.For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled:“ Death is swallowed up in victory.O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power.But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lord took hold of me, and I was carried away by the Spirit of the Lord to a valley filled with bones.He led me all around among the bones that covered the valley floor. They were scattered everywhere across the ground and were completely dried out.Then he asked me,“ Son of man, can these bones become living people again?”“ O Sovereign Lord,” I replied,“ you alone know the answer to that.”Then he said to me,“ Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say,‘ Dry bones, listen to the word of the Lord!This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again!I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”So I spoke this message, just as he told me. Suddenly as I spoke, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves as complete skeletons.Then as I watched, muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then skin formed to cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them.Then he said to me,“ Speak a prophetic message to the winds, son of man. Speak a prophetic message and say,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, O breath, from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so they may live again.’”So I spoke the message as he commanded me, and breath came into their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet— a great army.Then he said to me,“ Son of man, these bones represent the people of Israel. They are saying,‘ We have become old, dry bones— all hope is gone. Our nation is finished.’Therefore, prophesy to them and say,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: O my people, I will open your graves of exile and cause you to rise again. Then I will bring you back to the land of Israel.When this happens, O my people, you will know that I am the Lord.I will put my Spirit in you, and you will live again and return home to your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken, and I have done what I said. Yes, the Lord has spoken!’”

I will not die; instead, I will live to tell what the Lord has done.
