約書亞告民眾曰、主以色列之天主如是云、古昔爾曹列祖、其中亞伯拉罕與拿鶴之父他拉、居河東、崇事他神、我自河東攜爾祖亞伯拉罕、導之遍行迦南全地、蕃其苗裔、賜生以撒、

主諭亞伯蘭曰、爾可離故土親族父家、往我將示爾之地、我將使爾成為大族、賜福於爾、使爾名揚、俾爾享厚福、

司提反曰、諸父兄聽之哉、昔我祖亞伯拉罕、尚在米所波米、未居哈蘭時、榮光之天主現於彼、曰、爾出故土、離親族、往我將指爾之地、乃離迦勒底、居哈蘭、其父死後、天主徙之至此地、即爾今所居者、

雖然、主惟悅爾祖寵愛之、於萬民中特選其後裔、即爾曹、有如今日之事、

追思爾始祖亞伯拉罕及爾祖母撒拉、我選召亞伯拉罕時、彼孑然一身、後賜之以福、使其昌熾、

惟爾以色列我之僕、我所選之雅各、我所眷愛亞伯拉罕之苗裔、我自地極援引爾、自地之遠方召爾至、謂爾曰、爾乃我之僕、我選爾、不棄爾、

主又諭之曰、我乃耶和華、曾攜爾出迦勒底之吾珥者、欲以此地賜爾為業、
