But the earlier governors— those preceding me— placed a heavy burden on the people and took forty shekels of silver from them in addition to food and wine. Their assistants also lorded it over the people. But out of reverence for God I did not act like that.

Their officials had acted like high and mighty rulers over them. But because of my great respect for God, I didn’t act like that.

我又说：“你们这事作得不对。你们岂不应怀着敬畏我们神的心行事为人，免遭我们的仇敌外族人的毁谤吗？

耶和华喜悦敬畏他的人，喜悦仰望他慈爱的人。

因着怜悯和信实，罪孽得赎；因为敬畏耶和华，人可以避开罪恶。

因为神所降的灾难使我恐惧，因他的崇高我不敢妄为。

你们一切都听见了，总而言之，应当敬畏神，谨守他的诫命，因为这是每一个人的本分。人所作的每一件事，连一切隐藏的事，无论是善是恶，神都必审问。

我在你们那里有缺乏的时候，并没有连累任何人，因为从马其顿来的弟兄们，补足了我的缺乏。我在各方面都不让自己成为你们的重担，将来也是一样。

你们中间谁是敬畏耶和华，听从他仆人的声音的？谁是行在黑暗中，没有亮光的呢？他该倚靠耶和华的名，依赖他的神。

如果你们单问候你们的弟兄，有什么特别呢？教外人不也是这样作吗？

还有，在焚烧脂油以前，祭司的仆人就来，对献祭的人说：“把祭肉交给祭司烧烤吧，因为他不会向你要煮过的肉，单要生的。”如果那人对仆人说：“必须先把脂油焚烧了，然后你才可以随意去拿。”他就说：“不可以，你现在就要给我，否则我就抢去。”这样，那两个青年人在耶和华面前所犯的罪很大，因为他们藐视献给耶和华的祭物。

除了我自己没有成为你们的重担以外，你们还有什么比不上别的教会呢？这一点委屈，请原谅我吧！

如果掌权者听信谎言，他所有的臣仆必都是坏人。

你们要赞美耶和华。敬畏耶和华、热爱他的诫命的，这人是有福的。

你们撒种所得的和葡萄园所出的，他都征收十分之一，赐给他的太监和臣仆。
