Moreover, from the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, until his thirty-second year— twelve years— neither I nor my brothers ate the food allotted to the governor.

And that’s not all. I was appointed as governor of Judah in the 20th year that Artaxerxes was king of Persia. I remained in that position until his 32nd year. During those 12 years, I and my relatives didn’t eat the food that was provided for my table.

Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers ate the food allowance of the governor.

For the entire twelve years that I was governor of Judah— from the twentieth year to the thirty second year of the reign of King Artaxerxes— neither I nor my officials drew on our official food allowance.

Furthermore, from the day King Artaxerxes appointed me to be their governor in the land of Judah— from the twentieth year until his thirty-second year, twelve years— I and my associates never ate from the food allotted to the governor.

Furthermore, since the day that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year to the thirty second year of King Artaxerxes, for twelve years, neither I nor my kinsmen have eaten the governor’s food allowance.

Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year until the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers ate the governor’s provisions.

From the day that I was appointed governor in the land of Judah, that is, from the twentieth year until the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes– twelve years in all– neither I nor my relatives ate the food allotted to the governor.

这事发生的时候，我不在耶路撒冷；因为在巴比伦王亚达薛西三十二年，我回到王那里去；过了一段时期，我又向王告了假，

也没有白吃过谁的饭，反而辛苦劳碌，昼夜作工，免得加重你们任何一人的负担。这不是因为我们没有权利，而是要给你们作榜样，好让你们效法我们。

亚达薛西王二十年尼散月，王面前摆上了酒席，我拿酒来奉给王。我在他面前素来没有露出愁容。

难道我们没有权利吃喝吗？难道我们没有权利，像其余的使徒、主的弟兄和矶法一样，带着信主的妻子往来吗？难道只有我和巴拿巴没有权利不作工吗？有谁当兵要自备粮饷呢？有谁栽种葡萄园，不吃园里的果子呢？有谁牧养羊群，不喝羊的奶呢？我说这话，不是照着人的意见，律法不也是这样说吗？就在摩西的律法上记着说：“牛踹谷的时候，不可笼住它的嘴。”难道神关心的只是牛吗？这不全是为我们说的吗？当然是为我们说的，因为耕种的应当存着希望去耕种，收割的也应当存着希望去分享收获。我们既然在你们中间撒了属灵的种子，如果要从你们那里收获一些物质的供应，这算是过分吗？如果别人在你们身上享有这种权利，我们不是更可以享有吗？然而我们没有用过这种权利，反而凡事容忍，免得我们拦阻了基督的福音。难道你们不知道，在圣殿供职的，就吃殿中的供物；侍候祭坛的，就分领坛上的祭物吗？主也曾这样吩咐，叫传福音的人靠福音为生。但这种权利，我一点也没有用过。我写这些话，并不是想叫人这样待我，因为我宁可死，也不让人使我所夸耀的落了空。

那么，我的赏赐是什么呢？就是我传福音时，叫人免费得着福音。这样，我就没有用过传福音可以享有的权利了。

因此，你们也当纳税，因为他们是神的差役，专责处理这事的。你们要向各人清还所欠的；应当纳税的，就要给他纳税；应当进贡的，就给他进贡；应当敬畏的，就敬畏他；应当尊敬的，就尊敬他。

现在奏知大王：如果这城建成，墙垣筑好，他们就不再缴税、进贡和纳粮，王的国库收入必定受损。现在我们既食王家的盐，不该见王受剥夺，因此上奏禀告王，
