He sighed deeply. He said,“ Why do you people ask for a sign? What I’m about to tell you is true. No sign will be given to you.”

耶穌心裏深深地歎息，說：「這世代為甚麼求神蹟呢？我實在告訴你們，沒有神蹟給這世代看。」

耶穌靈裡深深地嘆息，就說：「這世代為什麼在尋求神蹟呢？我確實地告訴你們：絕不會有神蹟賜給這世代。」

耶穌中心太息、曰、斯世胡為求兆乎、我誠語汝、必不以兆予之、

耶穌中心太息曰、此世胡為求異蹟、我誠告爾、我必不以異蹟示此世、

耶穌中心歎息曰、斯世何為求異跡、我誠告爾、必不以異跡示此世、

耶穌衷心長歎曰：『斯代奚為求靈徵也！予誠告爾、實無靈徵可示斯代也。』

He sighed deeply and said,“ Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.”

And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said,“ Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

When he heard this, he sighed deeply in his spirit and said,“ Why do these people keep demanding a miraculous sign? I tell you the truth, I will not give this generation any such sign.”

Sighing deeply in his spirit, he said,“ Why does this generation demand a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

Sighing deeply in His spirit, He* said,“ Why does this generation demand a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation!”

But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said,“ Why does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.”

And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

But sighing deeply in His spirit, He said,“ Why does this generation demand a sign? I assure you: No sign will be given to this generation!”

And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

Sighing deeply in his spirit he said,“ Why does this generation look for a sign? I tell you the truth, no sign will be given to this generation.”

He sighed deeply in his spirit, and said,“ Why does this generation seek a sign? Most certainly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

Jesus looked up to heaven. With a deep sigh, he said to the man,“ Ephphatha!” That means“ Be opened!”

An evil and unfaithful people look for a sign. But none will be given to them except the sign of Jonah.” Then Jesus left them and went away.

He answered,“ Evil and unfaithful people ask for a sign! But none will be given except the sign of the prophet Jonah.Jonah was in the belly of a huge fish for three days and three nights. Something like that will happen to the Son of Man. He will spend three days and three nights in the grave.

Jesus had performed so many signs in front of them. But they still would not believe in him.This happened as Isaiah the prophet had said it would. He had said,“ Lord, who has believed what we’ve been saying? Who has seen the Lord’s saving power?”( Isaiah 53:1)For this reason, they could not believe. As Isaiah says in another place,“ The Lord has blinded their eyes. He has closed their minds. So they can’t see with their eyes. They can’t understand with their minds. They can’t turn to the Lord. If they could, he would heal them.”( Isaiah 6:10)Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him.At the same time that Jesus did those signs, many of the Jewish leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees, they would not openly admit they believed. They were afraid they would be thrown out of the synagogue.They loved praise from people more than praise from God.

As the crowds grew larger, Jesus spoke to them.“ The people of today are evil,” he said.“ They ask for a sign from God. But none will be given except the sign of Jonah.He was a sign from God to the people of Nineveh. In the same way, the Son of Man will be a sign from God to the people of today.

People looked down on him. They didn’t accept him. He knew all about pain and suffering. He was like someone people turn their faces away from. We looked down on him. We didn’t have any respect for him.

“ If you are the Messiah,” they said,“ tell us.” Jesus answered,“ If I tell you, you will not believe me.And if I asked you, you would not answer.But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”They all asked,“ Are you the Son of God then?” He replied,“ You say that I am.”

“ You unbelieving people!” Jesus replied.“ How long do I have to stay with you? How long do I have to put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”

He was amazed because they had no faith. Jesus went around teaching from village to village.

Jesus looked around at them in anger. He was very upset because their hearts were stubborn. Then he said to the man,“ Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand had become as good as new.

“ Abraham replied,‘ They have the teachings of Moses and the Prophets. Let your brothers listen to them.’“‘ No, father Abraham,’ he said.‘ But if someone from the dead goes to them, they will turn away from their sins.’“ Abraham said to him,‘ They do not listen to Moses and the Prophets. So they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’ ”

He approached Jerusalem. When he saw the city, he began to weep.

Jesus saw her crying. He saw that the Jews who had come along with her were crying also. His spirit became very sad, and he was troubled.“ Where have you put him?” he asked.“ Come and see, Lord,” they replied.Jesus wept.Then the Jews said,“ See how much he loved him!”But some of them said,“ He opened the eyes of the blind man. Couldn’t he have kept this man from dying?”Once more Jesus felt very sad. He came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone in front of the entrance.
