因为当时天气寒冷，奴仆和差役们生了一堆炭火，站着取暖。彼得也与他们站在一起取暖。

那时，祭司长们和民间的长老们聚集在叫该亚法的大祭司的宅院里，

西门彼得正站着取暖，有人对他说：“你不也是他的门徒吗？”彼得否认说：“我不是。”

这时，西门彼得和另一个门徒跟着耶稣。那门徒是大祭司所认识的，所以跟着耶稣进了大祭司的院子；彼得却站在门外。后来，大祭司认识的那个门徒出来，对看门的说了一声，就把彼得带了进去。

耶稣在极大的痛苦中，祷告更加恳切；他的汗珠变得像大血滴，落在地上。

彼得对耶稣说：“即使所有的人被绊倒，我还是不会。”可是耶稣对他说：“我确实地告诉你：今天，就在今夜，鸡叫两遍以前，你会三次不认我。”彼得却坚决地说：“就算我必须与你同死，我也绝不会不认你。”所有的门徒也都这么说。

她看见彼得在取暖，就注视着他，说：“你也与那个拿撒勒人耶稣是一伙的。”彼得却否认说：“我既不明白，也不知道你在说什么。”于是他就出去，到了门廊。这时候，鸡叫了。

彼得远远地跟着耶稣，一直到大祭司的院子。他进到里面，与差役们坐在一起，想看看结果如何。

要警醒祷告，免得陷入试探。你们心灵虽然愿意，肉体却是软弱的。”

他们在院子当中生了火，一起坐着。彼得也坐在他们中间。有一个女仆看见彼得坐在火光中，就注视着他，说：“这个人也与他是一伙的。”

有些希伯来人渡过约旦河到了迦得和基列地；扫罗仍然在吉甲，所有军兵都战战兢兢地跟随他。
