拘捕耶稣的人把他带到大祭司该亚法那里。经文士们和长老们已经聚集在那里了。彼得远远地跟着耶稣，一直到大祭司的院子。他进到里面，与差役们坐在一起，想看看结果如何。当时，祭司长们和全议会的人为了要处死耶稣，都在寻找伪证来控告他。虽然有许多假见证人上前来，可是他们找不出什么。后来有两个人上前来，说：“这个人说过：‘我能拆毁神的圣所，三天内又建起来。’”于是大祭司就站起来，问耶稣：“对这些人控告你的事，你什么都不回应吗？”耶稣却沉默不语。大祭司又对他说：“我命令你指着永生的神起誓，告诉我们你是不是基督——神的儿子？”耶稣回答他，说：“你已经说了。不过我告诉你们：将来你们会看见人子坐在全能者的右边，在天上的云彩中来临。”大祭司就撕裂自己的衣服，说：“他说了亵渎的话！难道我们还需要什么见证人吗？看，现在你们都听见了这亵渎的话。你们怎么看？”他们回答说：“他是该死的！”当时他们就往他脸上吐唾沫，用拳头打他，也有人用手掌打他，说：“给我们说预言吧！基督！打你的是谁？”

一到清晨，祭司长们就与长老们、经文士们以及全议会的人商议对策，然后把耶稣捆起来带走，交给彼拉多。

他被欺压、苦待，却不开口；他像羔羊被牵去宰杀、像羊在剪毛的人面前默然无声，他也这样不开口。

到了第二天，犹太人的首领、长老和经文士们都聚集在耶路撒冷。大祭司亚纳、该亚法、约翰、亚历山大，以及大祭司家族的人都在那里。

于是那队士兵和千夫长，以及犹太人的差役们，抓住耶稣，把他捆绑起来，先带到亚纳面前，因为亚纳是当年的大祭司该亚法的岳父。该亚法就是曾经向那些犹太人建议“一个人替民众死是有益处的”那个人。

那时，祭司长们和民间的长老们聚集在叫该亚法的大祭司的宅院里，

他们抓住耶稣，把他带走，押到大祭司的家里。彼得远远地跟着。他们在院子当中生了火，一起坐着。彼得也坐在他们中间。有一个女仆看见彼得坐在火光中，就注视着他，说：“这个人也与他是一伙的。”彼得却否认说：“你这个女人哪，我不认识他！”过了一会儿，另一个人看见他，就说：“你也是与他们一伙的！”彼得说：“你这个人哪，我不是！”大约过了一个小时，又有一个人肯定地说：“这个人真的也是与他一伙的，因为他也是加利利人。”彼得说：“你这个人哪，我不知道你在说什么！”他正说着的时候，鸡立时就叫了。主转过身来注视彼得，彼得就想起主对他说过的话：“今天鸡叫以前，你会三次不认我。”他就到外面去，痛哭起来。

那时，大祭司盘问耶稣有关他的门徒和他教导的事。耶稣回答他：“我一向公开地对世人讲话。我总是在会堂和圣殿，就是所有犹太人聚集的地方教导人。我没有在隐秘中讲过什么。你为什么问我呢？你可以去问那些听见过的人，我对他们讲了什么。你看，我所说的，那些人都知道。”耶稣说了这些话，站在旁边的一个差役就打了他一巴掌，说：“你这样回答大祭司吗？”耶稣回答他：“如果我说得不对，你可以见证哪里不对；如果说得对，你为什么打我呢？”那时候耶稣仍然被捆绑，亚纳把他押送到大祭司该亚法那里去。
