因為天氣寒冷，僕人和差役就生了炭火，站著取暖；彼得也和他們站在一起取暖。

那時，祭司長和民間的長老聚集在大祭司該亞法的官邸，

西門．彼得仍然站在火旁取暖。有人對他說：“你不也是他的門徒嗎？”彼得否認說：“我不是。”

西門．彼得和另一個門徒跟著耶穌；那門徒是大祭司認識的。他跟耶穌一起進了大祭司的院子，彼得卻站在門外。大祭司所認識的那門徒出來，對看門的婢女說了一聲，就帶了彼得進去。

彼得對他說：“就算所有的人都後退，我卻不會。”耶穌對他說：“我實在告訴你，就在今天晚上，雞叫兩遍以前，你會三次不認我。”彼得更堅決地說：“就算必須與你一同死，我也決不會不認你！”眾人也都這樣說。

看見彼得烤火，就瞪著他說：“你也是和拿撒勒人耶穌一夥的！”彼得卻否認說：“我不知道，也不明白你在說甚麼！”他就走出去，到了前院，雞就叫了（有些抄本無“雞就叫了”一句）。

以利亞聽見了，就用自己的外衣蒙著臉，走出來，站在洞口。忽然有聲音向他說：“以利亞啊，你在這裡幹甚麼？”

他在那裡進了一個洞，就在洞裡過夜。耶和華的話臨到他，說：“以利亞啊，你在這裡幹甚麼？”

彼得遠遠地跟著耶穌，直到大祭司的官邸。他進到裡面，和差役坐在一起，要看事情怎樣了結。

應當警醒、禱告，免得陷入試探；你們心靈雖然願意，肉體卻是軟弱的。”

他們在院內生了火，一同坐著，彼得也坐在他們中間。有一個使女，見他面向火光坐著，就注視他，說：“這人是和他一夥的。”

有些希伯來人渡過了約旦河，逃到迦得和基列地。但是掃羅仍然留在吉甲，跟隨他的眾人都恐懼戰兢。
