那些逮捕了耶穌的人，把他押去見大祭司該亞法。那時經學家和長老已經聚集在那裡了。彼得遠遠地跟著耶穌，直到大祭司的官邸。他進到裡面，和差役坐在一起，要看事情怎樣了結。祭司長和公議會全體都想找假證供來控告耶穌，好把他處死；雖然有許多人前來作假證供，卻找不著證據。最後有兩個人前來說：“這人說過：‘我可以拆毀神的聖所，三日之內又把它建造起來。’”大祭司就站起來，對耶穌說：“你為甚麼不回答？這些人作證，控告你的是甚麼呢？”耶穌卻不作聲。大祭司又對他說：“我指著永生的神要你起誓，告訴我們你是不是基督、神的兒子。”耶穌回答：“你已經說了﹙“你已經說了”或譯：“這是你說的。”﹚；但我告訴你們：從今以後，你們要看見人子，坐在權能者的右邊，駕著天上的雲降臨。”大祭司就撕開衣服，說：“他說了褻瀆的話，我們還要甚麼證人呢？你們現在聽見了這褻瀆的話，認為怎樣呢？”他們回答：“他是該死的。”於是他們吐唾沫在他的臉上，用拳頭打他，也有人用掌摑他，說：“基督啊，向我們說預言吧！是誰打你呢？”

一到清晨，祭司長和長老、經學家以及公議會全體一致議決，把耶穌綁起來，押去交給彼拉多。

他被虐待，受痛苦的時候，他並不開口；他像羊羔被牽去屠宰，又像羊在剪羊毛的人面前寂然無聲，他也是這樣不開口。

第二天，猶太人的官長、長老、經學家，都聚集在耶路撒冷，還有大祭司亞那和該亞法、約翰、亞歷山大，以及大祭司的家人，所有的人都在那裡。

於是那一隊兵和千夫長，以及猶太人的差役拿住耶穌，把他綁起來，先帶到亞那面前。亞那是當年的大祭司該亞法的岳父。該亞法就是從前向猶太人提議說“一個人代替人民死，這是有益的”那個人。

那時，祭司長和民間的長老聚集在大祭司該亞法的官邸，

他們拿住耶穌，押到大祭司家裡，彼得遠遠地跟著。他們在院內生了火，一同坐著，彼得也坐在他們中間。有一個使女，見他面向火光坐著，就注視他，說：“這人是和他一夥的。”彼得卻否認，說：“你這個女人，我不認得他。”不久，另一個人看見他，就說：“你也是他們中間的一個。”彼得說：“你這個人，我不是。”大約過了一小時，又有一個人肯定地說：“這人真是和他一夥的，因為他也是加利利人。”彼得說：“你這個人，我不知道你說的是甚麼！”他還在說話的時候，雞就叫了。主轉過身來看彼得，彼得就想起主對他說過的話：“今天雞叫以前，你要三次說不認得我。”他就出去痛哭。

那時，大祭司查問耶穌有關他的門徒和他的教訓的事。耶穌對大祭司說：“我向來對世人講話都是公開的，我常常在會堂和聖殿裡，就是在所有猶太人聚集的地方教導人，暗地裡我並沒有講甚麼。你為甚麼查問我呢？問問那些聽過我講話的人吧，他們知道我講過甚麼。”耶穌說了這些話，站在旁邊的一個差役，就打他一巴掌，說：“你竟敢這樣回答大祭司嗎？”耶穌對他說：“如果我講錯了，你可以指證錯在哪裡；如果我講對了，你為甚麼打我呢？”亞那仍然綁著耶穌，把他押到大祭司該亞法那裡去。
