因为天气寒冷，仆人和差役就生了炭火，站着取暖；彼得也和他们站在一起取暖。

那时，祭司长和民间的长老聚集在大祭司该亚法的官邸，

西门．彼得仍然站在火旁取暖。有人对他说：“你不也是他的门徒吗？”彼得否认说：“我不是。”

西门．彼得和另一个门徒跟着耶稣；那门徒是大祭司认识的。他跟耶稣一起进了大祭司的院子，彼得却站在门外。大祭司所认识的那门徒出来，对看门的婢女说了一声，就带了彼得进去。

彼得对他说：“就算所有的人都后退，我却不会。”耶稣对他说：“我实在告诉你，就在今天晚上，鸡叫两遍以前，你会三次不认我。”彼得更坚决地说：“就算必须与你一同死，我也决不会不认你！”众人也都这样说。

看见彼得烤火，就瞪着他说：“你也是和拿撒勒人耶稣一伙的！”彼得却否认说：“我不知道，也不明白你在说什么！”他就走出去，到了前院，鸡就叫了（有些抄本无“鸡就叫了”一句）。

以利亚听见了，就用自己的外衣蒙着脸，走出来，站在洞口。忽然有声音向他说：“以利亚啊，你在这里干什么？”

他在那里进了一个洞，就在洞里过夜。耶和华的话临到他，说：“以利亚啊，你在这里干什么？”

彼得远远地跟着耶稣，直到大祭司的官邸。他进到里面，和差役坐在一起，要看事情怎样了结。

应当警醒、祷告，免得陷入试探；你们心灵虽然愿意，肉体却是软弱的。”

他们在院内生了火，一同坐着，彼得也坐在他们中间。有一个使女，见他面向火光坐着，就注视他，说：“这人是和他一伙的。”

有些希伯来人渡过了约旦河，逃到迦得和基列地。但是扫罗仍然留在吉甲，跟随他的众人都恐惧战兢。
