那些逮捕了耶稣的人，把他押去见大祭司该亚法。那时经学家和长老已经聚集在那里了。彼得远远地跟着耶稣，直到大祭司的官邸。他进到里面，和差役坐在一起，要看事情怎样了结。祭司长和公议会全体都想找假证供来控告耶稣，好把他处死；虽然有许多人前来作假证供，却找不着证据。最后有两个人前来说：“这人说过：‘我可以拆毁神的圣所，三日之内又把它建造起来。’”大祭司就站起来，对耶稣说：“你为什么不回答？这些人作证，控告你的是什么呢？”耶稣却不作声。大祭司又对他说：“我指着永生的神要你起誓，告诉我们你是不是基督、神的儿子。”耶稣回答：“你已经说了﹙“你已经说了”或译：“这是你说的。”﹚；但我告诉你们：从今以后，你们要看见人子，坐在权能者的右边，驾着天上的云降临。”大祭司就撕开衣服，说：“他说了亵渎的话，我们还要什么证人呢？你们现在听见了这亵渎的话，认为怎样呢？”他们回答：“他是该死的。”于是他们吐唾沫在他的脸上，用拳头打他，也有人用掌掴他，说：“基督啊，向我们说预言吧！是谁打你呢？”

一到清晨，祭司长和长老、经学家以及公议会全体一致议决，把耶稣绑起来，押去交给彼拉多。

他被虐待，受痛苦的时候，他并不开口；他像羊羔被牵去屠宰，又像羊在剪羊毛的人面前寂然无声，他也是这样不开口。

第二天，犹太人的官长、长老、经学家，都聚集在耶路撒冷，还有大祭司亚那和该亚法、约翰、亚历山大，以及大祭司的家人，所有的人都在那里。

于是那一队兵和千夫长，以及犹太人的差役拿住耶稣，把他绑起来，先带到亚那面前。亚那是当年的大祭司该亚法的岳父。该亚法就是从前向犹太人提议说“一个人代替人民死，这是有益的”那个人。

那时，祭司长和民间的长老聚集在大祭司该亚法的官邸，

他们拿住耶稣，押到大祭司家里，彼得远远地跟着。他们在院内生了火，一同坐着，彼得也坐在他们中间。有一个使女，见他面向火光坐着，就注视他，说：“这人是和他一伙的。”彼得却否认，说：“你这个女人，我不认得他。”不久，另一个人看见他，就说：“你也是他们中间的一个。”彼得说：“你这个人，我不是。”大约过了一小时，又有一个人肯定地说：“这人真是和他一伙的，因为他也是加利利人。”彼得说：“你这个人，我不知道你说的是什么！”他还在说话的时候，鸡就叫了。主转过身来看彼得，彼得就想起主对他说过的话：“今天鸡叫以前，你要三次说不认得我。”他就出去痛哭。

那时，大祭司查问耶稣有关他的门徒和他的教训的事。耶稣对大祭司说：“我向来对世人讲话都是公开的，我常常在会堂和圣殿里，就是在所有犹太人聚集的地方教导人，暗地里我并没有讲什么。你为什么查问我呢？问问那些听过我讲话的人吧，他们知道我讲过什么。”耶稣说了这些话，站在旁边的一个差役，就打他一巴掌，说：“你竟敢这样回答大祭司吗？”耶稣对他说：“如果我讲错了，你可以指证错在哪里；如果我讲对了，你为什么打我呢？”亚那仍然绑着耶稣，把他押到大祭司该亚法那里去。
