如果不是主減少那些日子，沒有一個人可以存活；但是為了自己的選民，他必使那些日子減少。

若不是主减少那日子，凡有血气的，总没有一个得救的；只是为主的选民，他将那日子减少了。

若主未減其日、則無得救者、但為選民故、乃減其日也、

若主不稍減其日、則無有得救者、惟為所選之民、是日其稍減耳、

若主不稍減其日、則無一人得救、惟天主為其所救之選民、已稍減其日、

主若不減其時日、則血氣之倫、將無遺孑！惟為選民之故、主必減之耳。

“ If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them.

In fact, unless the Lord shortens that time of calamity, not a single person will survive. But for the sake of his chosen ones he has shortened those days.

耶和華這樣說：“人怎樣發現纍纍葡萄中有新酒的時候，就說：‘不要毀滅它，因為有好處在裡面’，我因我的眾僕人的緣故也必照樣而行，不把它們全都毀滅。我要從雅各中領出後裔，從猶大中領出承受我眾山的；我揀選的人必承受那地為業，我的眾僕人必在那裡居住。

如果那些日子不減少，沒有一個人可以存活；但是為了選民，那些日子必會減少。

就福音來說，因你們的緣故，他們是仇敵；就揀選來說，因祖宗的緣故，他們是蒙愛的。因為神的恩賞和呼召是決不會反悔的。正如你們從前不順服神，現在卻因著他們的不順服，你們倒蒙了憐憫；照樣，他們因著你們所蒙的憐憫，現在也不順服，使他們現在也可以蒙憐憫。因為神把所有的人都圈在不順服之中，為了要憐憫所有的人。

全地的人必有三分之二被除滅，只有三分之一存留下來。（這是耶和華的宣告。）我必使這三分之一經火試煉。我要煉淨他們，像煉淨銀子一樣；我要試煉他們，像試煉金子一樣。他們必呼求我的名，我必應允他們。我要說：‘他們是我的子民。’他們也要說：‘耶和華是我們的神。’”

境內剩下的人，雖然只有十分之一，也必被消滅。但正如栗樹和橡樹，雖然被砍下，樹的餘幹還存留在那裡。這聖潔的苗裔，就是這國的餘幹。”

至於他們，如果不是繼續不信，他們仍然會被接上去，因為神能夠把他們再接上去。你這從野生的橄欖樹上砍下來的，尚且可以不自然地接在栽種的橄欖樹上，那些本來就有的樹枝，不是更能夠接在原來的橄欖樹上嗎？

因此，現在也是這樣，按著恩典的揀選，還有剩下的餘數。既然是靠著恩典，就不再是由於行為了；不然的話，恩典就不再是恩典了。那又怎麼樣呢？以色列人懇切尋找的，他們沒有得到，蒙揀選的人倒得著了。其餘的人都成了頑固的，

若不是萬軍之耶和華給我們留下一些生還者，我們早已像所多瑪、蛾摩拉一樣了。
