時有如望之徒晉謁曰：『吾儕及法利塞人恆齋、爾徒獨不齋何也？』

Then John’s disciples came and asked him,“ How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”

One day John’s disciples came. They said to Jesus,“ We and the Pharisees often go without eating. Why don’t your disciples go without eating?”

Then the disciples of John came to him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?”

One day the disciples of John the Baptist came to Jesus and asked him,“ Why don’t your disciples fast like we do and the Pharisees do?”

Then John’s disciples came to him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”

Then the disciples of John* came to Him, asking,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”

约翰的门徒们和法利赛人正禁食的时候，有些人来问耶稣：“为什么约翰的门徒们和法利赛人的门徒们都禁食，而你的门徒们却不禁食呢？”耶稣对他们说：“新郎与宾客在一起的时候，难道宾客能禁食吗？只要他们与新郎在一起，他们就不能禁食。可是日子将要来到：当新郎从他们中间被带走的时候，他们那时——在那一天就要禁食了。没有人把没缩过水的布块补在旧衣服上。否则所补上的新布会扯坏旧衣服，造成更大的裂口。同样，也没有人把新酒装在旧皮袋里，否则酒会胀破皮袋，酒和皮袋都糟蹋了。因此，新酒必须装在新皮袋里。”

他们对耶稣说：“约翰的门徒们经常禁食、祈祷，法利赛人的门徒们也是如此，而你的门徒们却又吃又喝。”耶稣对他们说：“新郎与宾客在一起的时候，难道你们能叫宾客禁食吗？可是日子将要来到：当新郎从他们中间被带走的时候，他们那时——在那些日子里就要禁食了。”耶稣又对他们讲了一个比喻：“没有人从新衣服上撕下一块布来缝在旧衣服上，否则，他不但撕破了新衣服，而且来自新衣服的那块布与旧衣服不相称。也没有人把新酒装在旧皮袋里，否则新酒会胀破旧皮袋，酒会流出来，皮袋也会糟蹋了。因此，新酒必须装在新皮袋里。没有人喝了陈酒以后想喝新酒，因为他总说：‘还是陈酒好。’”

“你们禁食的时候，不要像伪善的人那样愁眉苦脸。他们装出难看的样子，好让人看出他们在禁食。我确实地告诉你们：他们已经得到了他们的报偿。

“因为约翰来了，不吃也不喝，他们就说：‘他有鬼魔附身！’人子来了，也吃也喝，他们就说：‘看，这个贪食好酒的人！税吏和罪人的朋友！’然而，智慧是凭着智慧的行为被证明为义的。”

耶稣还对某些自以为义而藐视其他人的，讲了这个比喻：“有两个人上圣殿去祷告。一个是法利赛人，另一个是税吏。那法利赛人站着，向自己祷告这些话：‘神哪，我感谢你，因为我不像其他人那样：勒索、不义、通奸，也不像这个税吏。我一周禁食两次，并奉献我所有收入的十分之一。’

约翰的门徒们与一个犹太人，为了洁净礼起了辩论。

许多人自称是忠诚的，但真正忠实的人，谁能找到呢？

约翰在监狱里听说了基督所做的事，就派自己的几个门徒去

耶稣知道，法利赛人听说他收门徒和施洗比约翰更多。
