Jesus replied,“ Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.

for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead.

Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.

“ O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you!

But those who die in the Lord will live; their bodies will rise again! Those who sleep in the earth will rise up and sing for joy! For your life giving light will fall like dew on your people in the place of the dead!

Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace.Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever.

For the word of God will never fail.”

He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

“ But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last.And after my body has decayed, yet in my body I will see God!I will see him for myself. Yes, I will see him with my own eyes. I am overwhelmed at the thought!

Because I am righteous, I will see you. When I awake, I will see you face to face and be satisfied.

Why does it seem incredible to any of you that God can raise the dead?

Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth.My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.

Like sheep, they are led to the grave, where death will be their shepherd. In the morning the godly will rule over them. Their bodies will rot in the grave, far from their grand estates.But as for me, God will redeem my life. He will snatch me from the power of the grave. Interlude

No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety.For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave.You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.

He will swallow up death forever! The Sovereign Lord will wipe away all tears. He will remove forever all insults and mockery against his land and people. The Lord has spoken!

Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”

“ Should I ransom them from the grave? Should I redeem them from death? O death, bring on your terrors! O grave, bring on your plagues! For I will not take pity on them.

Then he said,“ When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.”Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.And he said,“ Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day.It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem:‘ There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’

Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come.For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die.
