For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

And when all the people heard Him, even the tax collectors justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John.But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.

And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil,and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying,“ This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.”And Jesus answered and said to him,“ Simon, I have something to say to you.” So he said,“ Teacher, say it.”“ There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?”Simon answered and said,“ I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him,“ You have rightly judged.”Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon,“ Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head.You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in.You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil.Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.”Then He said to her,“ Your sins are forgiven.”And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves,“ Who is this who even forgives sins?”Then He said to the woman,“ Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”

For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.

“ But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear.Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the Lord of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the Lord of hosts.

You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved.He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish— the very works that I do— bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe.You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

“ But My people would not heed My voice, And Israel would have none of Me.So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart, To walk in their own counsels.

And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.

if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God;but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned.

And as John was finishing his course, he said,‘ Who do you think I am? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.’“ Men and brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you the word of this salvation has been sent.For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor even the voices of the Prophets which are read every Sabbath, have fulfilled them in condemning Him.And though they found no cause for death in Him, they asked Pilate that He should be put to death.Now when they had fulfilled all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a tomb.

Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;

In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,and saying,“ Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying:“ The voice of one crying in the wilderness:‘ Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.’”Now John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to himand were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them,“ Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,and do not think to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

Thus says the Lord:“ Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said,‘ We will not walk in it.’

Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”So the people asked him, saying,“ What shall we do then?”He answered and said to them,“ He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.”Then tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him,“ Teacher, what shall we do?”And he said to them,“ Collect no more than what is appointed for you.”

in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,

A highway shall be there, and a road, And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, But it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, Shall not go astray.
