讲完这些话后大约八天，耶稣带着彼得、约翰和雅各一同到山上祷告。耶稣在祷告的时候，容貌改变了，衣裳洁白发光。忽然，摩西和以利亚二人在跟耶稣交谈。二人在荣光中显现，谈论有关耶稣离世的事情，就是祂在耶路撒冷将要成就的事。彼得和两个同伴都困得睡着了，他们醒来后，看见了耶稣的荣光以及站在祂身边的两个人。当摩西和以利亚要离开时，彼得对耶稣说：“老师，我们在这里真好！让我们搭三座帐篷，一座给你，一座给摩西，一座给以利亚。”其实彼得并不知道自己在说什么。他的话还没说完，有一朵云彩飘来，笼罩他们，他们进入云彩中，都很害怕。云彩中有声音说：“这是我的儿子，是我拣选的，你们要听从祂！”声音消逝了，门徒只见耶稣独自在那里。那些日子，他们对这事都绝口不提，没有告诉任何人。

于是，祂带着彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟约翰去雅鲁家，不准其他人跟着。

祂带了彼得和西庇太的两个儿子一起去。祂心里非常忧伤痛苦，

当时我们和祂一同在圣山上，亲耳听见了这来自天上的声音。

这是我第三次要去你们那里。圣经上说：“任何控告必须有两三个证人作证才能成立。”

六天后，耶稣带着彼得、雅各和约翰暗暗地登上一座高山。耶稣在他们面前改变了形象，衣服变得洁白放光，世上找不到漂得那么白的布。这时，以利亚和摩西在他们眼前出现，与耶稣谈话。彼得对耶稣说：“老师，我们在这里真好！我们搭三座帐篷吧，一座给你，一座给摩西，一座给以利亚。”其实彼得当时不知说什么才好，因为他们都很害怕。就在这时候，有一朵云彩飘来遮住他们，云彩中有声音说：“这是我的爱子，你们要听从祂。”门徒立刻四处观看，发现没有其他人，只有耶稣和他们在那里。下山的时候，耶稣叮嘱他们在人子还没有从死里复活之前，不要把刚才看见的告诉别人。门徒把这话谨记在心，彼此议论“从死里复活”这句话的意思。他们问耶稣：“律法教师为什么说以利亚必须先来？”耶稣回答说：“以利亚固然要先来复兴一切，但为什么圣经上说人子一定会饱受痛苦、遭人蔑视呢？其实我告诉你们，以利亚已经来了，人们却任意对待他，正如圣经的记载。”

到了雅鲁家，耶稣只准彼得、雅各、约翰和雅鲁夫妇跟祂进去。
