On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.

You will be brought to governors and kings because of me. You will be witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.

and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles.

You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell the rulers and other unbelievers about me.

耶穌謂之曰：『慎毋告人、第往自陳於司祭、獻摩西定儀、為若輩證。』

二人作證既畢、將有猛獸出自無底深壑與之戰、勝而殺之、

越五日、大司祭亞拿尼亞與數長老及律師名帖士羅者詣總督前、控葆樂。葆樂既被提審、帖士羅控之曰、『斐力斯閣下、吾人賴爾獲享太平、時措之宜、弊絕風清、庶績咸熙、莫不感戴。茲以事上瀆清聽、庸敢多言、容略陳詞、尚祈諒察。依吾等所見、此人實為蝥賊、煽動普天下猶太人作亂、又係納匝勒異端之一首領、意圖褻瀆聖殿。故吾儕拘之。

或報曰：『爾所囚者、已立於殿中、而施教於民矣！』司殿役吏急就之、乃引至、然未敢施以暴行、因懼民眾以石相擊也。既至、命宗徒立公會前；大司祭問曰：

爾當戒慎、爾將因予之故、被人執交公會、撻於會堂、解至王侯之前、以證吾道。

其時希祿王肆力摧殘教會同人。既殺若望之兄雅谷伯；見猶太人悅此措施又執伯鐸祿。爾時正為除酵日。希祿既捕伯鐸祿、投於獄中、指派卒四組、每組四人守之。擬於免難節後、提付人民審判。

啟五緘、則見為天主聖道而致命者之靈魂盤桓於祭臺之下、

我首次提審時、竟無一人為我辯護；同人皆紛紛棄我而去。願主曲恕其行。當時惟主佑我、充我以大無畏精神、俾我猶克從容布道於異邦人、且竟能安然脫出獅口。

故望勿以為主作證是羞、亦勿以予之因主被囚為恥。當賴天主之德、毅然與我共為福音而忍辱負重也。

騎兵既至凱塞里、將公文呈遞總督、令葆樂立於其前。總督閱公文畢、問葆樂乃何省人；既知彼乃基利嘉人、

何列邦之擾攘兮。何萬民之猖狂。世酋蠭起兮。跋扈飛揚。共圖背叛天主兮。反抗受命之王。曰吾儕豈長甘羈絆兮。盍解其縛而脫其繮。在天者必大笑兮。笑蜉蝣之不知自量。終必勃然而怒兮。以懲當車之螳螂。主曰吾已立君於西溫聖山之上兮。

我若望為爾之同胞、與爾在耶穌懷中共受患難、同屬一國、而咸秉忍辱負重之德。吾因天主之明訓及耶穌之妙證、而被流至巴脫摩海島。
