“ I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled!

「我來要把火丟在地上，倘若已經着起來，不也是我所願意的嗎？

「我來是要把火丟在地上，我多麼希望這火已經燃燒起來。

“我來要把火投在地上，如果燒了起來，那是我所願意的。

『我來把火丟在地上；我是多麼切願它着起來啊！

「我來是要把火投在地上，我多麼希望這火已經點燃了！

我來以火投地、倘火既燃、非我所欲乎、

我至、以火投地、倘火已燃、非我所欲乎、

我來、以火投地、深願火之已燃、

予之來、所以投火於地也、苟其已燃、豈不美哉。

“ I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!

“ I came to cast fire on the earth, and would that it were already kindled!

“ I have come to set the world on fire, and I wish it were already burning!

“ I came to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already set ablaze!

“ I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!

I came to cast fire upon the earth; and what do I desire, if it is already kindled?

“ I came to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already set ablaze!

I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?

“ I have come to bring fire on the earth– and how I wish it were already kindled!

“ I came to throw fire on the earth. I wish it were already kindled.

“ For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace; and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be chaff; and the day that is coming will set them ablaze,” says the Lord of armies,“ so that it will leave them neither root nor branches.

And the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore, every tree that does not bear good fruit is being cut down and thrown into the fire.“ As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth, Blood, fire, and columns of smoke.The sun will be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.

We must carry out the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.

“ But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire, and like launderer’s soap.And He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver, and He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may present to the Lord offerings in righteousness.

When He left that place, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very hostile and to interrogate Him about many subjects,plotting against Him to catch Him in something He might say.

Do you think that I came to provide peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division;for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three.

But with righteousness He will judge the poor, And decide with fairness for the humble of the earth; And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.

At that very time some Pharisees approached, saying to Him,“ Go away and leave this place, because Herod wants to kill You.”And He said to them,“ Go and tell that fox,‘ Behold, I am casting out demons and performing healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I reach My goal.’Nevertheless I must go on My journey today and tomorrow and the next day; for it cannot be that a prophet would perish outside Jerusalem.

The disciples* said to Him,“ Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone You, and yet You are going there again?”Jesus replied,“ Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks during the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.But if anyone walks during the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”

So the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him.For this reason also the people went to meet Him, because they heard that He had performed this sign.So the Pharisees said to one another,“ You see that you are not accomplishing anything; look, the world has gone after Him!”

And yet some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him,“ Teacher, rebuke Your disciples!”Jesus replied,“ I tell you, if these stop speaking, the stones will cry out!”
