不知而作當撲之事、見撲必少、蓋凡人多予之、必向之多求、多託之、必向之多索、

其不知而行當罰之罪者、受撻猶少。誠以賦之厚、則望之深、託之重、則責之嚴也。

But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

But suppose the servant does not know his master’s wishes. And suppose the servant does things for which he should be punished. He will receive a lighter beating. Much will be required of everyone who has been given much. Even more will be asked of the person who is supposed to take care of much.

Do not become teachers in large numbers, my brothers, since you know that we who are teachers will incur a stricter judgment.

“ Now if a person sins and does any of the things which the Lord has commanded not to be done, though he was unaware, he is still guilty and shall bear his punishment.

“ For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey.The one who had received the five talents immediately went and did business with them, and earned five more talents.In the same way the one who had received the two talents earned two more.But he who received the one talent went away and dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money.“ Now after a long time the master of those slaves* came and* settled accounts with them.The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying,‘ Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have earned five more talents.’His master said to him,‘ Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter the joy of your master.’“ Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said,‘ Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have earned two more talents.’His master said to him,‘ Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter the joy of your master.’“ Now the one who had received the one talent also came up and said,‘ Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter seed.And I was afraid, so I went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you still have what is yours.’“ But his master answered and said to him,‘ You worthless, lazy slave! Did you know that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter seed?Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest.Therefore: take the talent away from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.’“ For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away.

For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.

“ The one who is faithful in a very little thing is also faithful in much; and the one who is unrighteous in a very little thing is also unrighteous in much.Therefore if you have not been faithful in the use of unrighteous wealth, who will entrust the true wealth to you?And if you have not been faithful in the use of that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?

even though I was previously a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief;

If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.

You shall have one law for the native among the sons of Israel and for the stranger who resides among them, for one who does anything wrong unintentionally.But the person who does wrong defiantly, whether he is a native or a stranger, that one is blaspheming the Lord; and that person shall be cut off from among his people.

For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law;for it is not the hearers of the Law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the Law who will be justified.For when Gentiles who do not have the Law instinctively perform the requirements of the Law, these, though not having the Law, are a law to themselves,in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience testifying and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them,on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of mankind through Christ Jesus.

And he summoned him and said to him,‘ What is this I hear about you? Give an accounting of your management, for you can no longer be manager.’

Timothy, protect what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly, empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called“ knowledge”—

But he refused and said to his master’s wife,“ Look, with me here, my master does not concern himself with anything in the house, and he has put me in charge of all that he owns.There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil, and sin against God?”Though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he did not listen to her to lie beside her or be with her.Now it happened one day that he went into the house to do his work, and none of the people of the household was there inside.So she grabbed him by his garment, saying,“ Sleep with me!” But he left his garment in her hand and fled, and went outside.When she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled outside,she called to the men of her household and said to them,“ See, he has brought in a Hebrew to us to make fun of us; he came in to me to sleep with me, and I screamed.When he heard that I raised my voice and screamed, he left his garment beside me and fled and went outside.”So she left his garment beside her until his master came home.Then she spoke to him with these words:“ The Hebrew slave, whom you brought to us, came in to me to make fun of me;but when I raised my voice and screamed, he left his garment beside me and fled outside.”Now when his master heard the words of his wife which she spoke to him, saying,“ This is what your slave did to me,” his anger burned.So Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined; and he was there in the prison.But the Lord was with Joseph and extended kindness to him, and gave him favor in the sight of the warden of the prison.And the warden of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison; so that whatever was done there, he was responsible for it.The warden of the prison did not supervise anything under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him; and, the Lord made whatever he did prosper.

according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.

So having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now proclaiming to mankind that all people everywhere are to repent,

but at the proper time revealed His word in the proclamation with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior;

For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a commission nonetheless.What, then, is my reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may offer the gospel without charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel.
