But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your soul is demanded of you; and as for all that you have prepared, who will own it now?’

神却对他说：‘无知的人哪，今夜必要你的灵魂；你所预备的要归谁呢？’

但上帝对他说，‘无知的人啊，今晚就要取走你的命！你所预备的一切留给谁享用呢？’”

神却对他说：‘无知的人哪，今天晚上，你的灵魂必被取去，你所预备的要归给谁呢？’

“可是神对他说：‘你这愚妄的人哪！今夜，他们就要召回你的灵魂了。那么，你所预备的要归谁呢？’

神卻對他說：『無知的人哪，今夜必要你的靈魂；你所預備的要歸誰呢？』

上帝卻對他說：『無知的人哪！今夜就要你的性命，你所預備的要歸誰呢？』

神卻對他說：『無知的人哪！今夜就要你的性命，你所預備的要歸誰呢？』

但上帝對他說，『無知的人啊！今晚就要取走你的命！你所預備的一切留給誰享用呢？』」

神卻對他說：‘無知的人哪，今天晚上，你的靈魂必被取去，你所預備的要歸給誰呢？’

但上帝卻對他說：「糊塗人哪，就在今天夜裏，你的財物就要要你的命了！你所豫備的、要歸誰呢？」

「可是神對他說：『你這愚妄的人哪！今夜，他們就要召回你的靈魂了。那麼，你所預備的要歸誰呢？』

惟上帝謂之曰、無知者乎、今夜將索爾靈、則所備者誰歸、

上帝曰、無知者乎、今夜將索爾魂、則所備者誰歸、

惟天主謂之曰、愚者乎、今夜將索爾靈、則所備者歸於誰、

詎天主謂之曰：「愚人、今夕欲索爾魂、爾之所備、將誰歸乎？」

“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

“ But God said to him,‘ You foolish man! Tonight I will take your life away from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

But God said to him,‘ Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’

“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’

“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared— whose will they be?’

But God said to him,‘ Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’

But God said unto him, Thou foolish one, this night is thy soul required of thee; and the things which thou hast prepared, whose shall they be?

“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared— whose will they be?’

But God said unto him,[ Thou] fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded back from you, but who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

“ But God said to him,‘ You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared— whose will they be?’

As a partridge that hatches eggs which it has not laid, So is a person who makes a fortune, but unjustly; In the middle of his days it will abandon him, And in the end he will be a fool.”

Certainly every person walks around as a fleeting shadow; They certainly make an uproar for nothing; He amasses riches and does not know who will gather them.

For what is the hope of the godless when he makes an end of life, When God requires his life?

For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it, either.

Though he piles up silver like dust, And prepares garments as plentiful as the clay,He may prepare it, but the righteous will wear it And the innocent will divide the silver.

You foolish ones, did He who made the outside not make the inside also?

Now it happened that the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s arms; and the rich man also died and was buried.And in Hades he raised his eyes, being in torment, and* saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his arms.

But God will break you down forever; He will snatch you up and tear you away from your tent, And uproot you from the land of the living. SelahThe righteous will see and fear, And they will laugh at him, saying,“ Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge, But trusted in the abundance of his riches And was strong in his evil desire.”

For when he dies, he will take nothing with him; His wealth will not descend after him.Though while he lives he congratulates himself— And though people praise you when you do well for yourself—He will go to the generation of his fathers; They will never see the light.

Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. For you are just a vapor that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away.

When that wealth was lost through bad business and he had fathered a son, then there was nothing to support him.As he came naked from his mother’s womb, so he will return as he came. He will take nothing from the fruit of his labor that he can carry in his hand.This also is a sickening evil: exactly as a person is born, so will he die. What then is the advantage for him who labors for the wind?

One who increases his wealth by interest of any kind, Collects it for one who is gracious to the poor.

Then Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and his many sons, and every occasion on which the king had honored him and how he had promoted him above the officials and servants of the king.

“ Now this is the inscription that was written:‘ Menē, Menē, Tekēl, Upharsin.’This is the interpretation of the message:‘ Menē’— God has numbered your kingdom and put an end to it.‘ Tekēl’— you have been weighed on the scales and found deficient.‘ Perēs’— your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians.”Then Belshazzar gave orders, and they clothed Daniel with purple and put a necklace of gold around his neck, and issued a proclamation concerning him that he now had authority as the third ruler in the kingdom.That same night Belshazzar the Chaldean king was killed.

Yet before they had abandoned their longing, While their food was in their mouths,

Like tangled thorns, And like those who are drunken with their drink, They are consumed Like stubble completely dried up.

But if that evil slave says in his heart,‘ My master is not coming for a long time,’and he begins to beat his fellow slaves, and he eats and drinks with those habitually drunk;then the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect, and at an hour that he does not know,and he will cut him in two and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

On that day King Ahasuerus gave the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews, to Queen Esther; and Mordecai came before the king, because Esther had disclosed what he was to her.Then the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken away from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.

So I hated all the fruit of my labor for which I had labored under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who will come after me.And who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will have control over all the fruit of my labor for which I have labored by acting wisely under the sun. This too is futility.Therefore I completely despaired over all the fruit of my labor for which I had labored under the sun.When there is a person who has labored with wisdom, knowledge, and skill, and then gives his legacy to one who has not labored for it; this too is futility and a great evil.For what does a person get in all his labor and in his striving with which he labors under the sun?

“ Because he knew no quiet within him, He does not retain anything he desires.Nothing remains for him to devour, Therefore his prosperity does not endure.In the fullness of his excess he will be cramped; The hand of everyone who suffers will come against him.When he fills his belly, God will send His fierce anger on him And rain it on him while he is eating.

While they are saying,“ Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction will come upon them like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

And his servant Zimri, commander of half his chariots, conspired against him. Now Elah was in Tirzah drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, who was in charge of the household in Tirzah.Then Zimri came in and struck him and put him to death in the twenty seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and he became king in his place.

Then Absalom commanded his servants, saying,“ See now, when Amnon’s heart is cheerful with wine, and I say to you,‘ Strike Amnon,’ then put him to death. Do not fear; have I not commanded you myself? Be courageous and be valiant.”And the servants of Absalom did to Amnon just as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons got up and each mounted his mule and fled.

Belshazzar the king held a great feast for a thousand of his nobles, and he was drinking wine in the presence of the thousand.While he tasted the wine, Belshazzar gave orders to bring the gold and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines could drink out of them.Then they brought the gold vessels that had been taken out of the temple, the house of God which was in Jerusalem; and the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines drank out of them.They drank the wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone.Suddenly the fingers of a human hand emerged and began writing opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace, and the king saw the back of the hand that did the writing.Then the king’s face became pale and his thoughts alarmed him, and his hip joints loosened and his knees began knocking together.

How they are destroyed in a moment! They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors!

Riches do not benefit on the day of wrath, But righteousness rescues from death.

Then Abigail came to Nabal, and behold, he was having a feast in his house, like the feast of a king. And Nabal’s heart was cheerful within him, for he was very drunk; so she did not tell him anything at all until the morning light.But in the morning, when the wine had gone out of Nabal, his wife told him these things, and his heart died within him so that he became like a stone.About ten days later, the Lord struck Nabal and he died.

Then Moses said to Aaron,“ Say to all the congregation of the sons of Israel,‘ Come forward before the Lord, for He has heard your grumblings.’ ”And it came about, as Aaron spoke to the entire congregation of the sons of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud.
