「虛偽的律法教師和法利賽人啊，你們有禍了！因為你們當著人們的面關閉天國之門，自己不進去，也不讓別人進去。

祭司的嘴唇應持守知識，人民應從他口中尋求訓誨，因為他是萬軍之耶和華的使者。

為了避免這件事傳得更廣，我們必須警告他們以後不許再對任何人傳講耶穌的事。」於是，他們又把使徒傳來，嚴令他們不許再奉耶穌的名講論或傳道。

法利賽人又把那個從前失明的人叫來，對他說：「你應該把榮耀歸給上帝！我們知道那個人是罪人。」他說：「祂是不是罪人，我不知道；我只知道從前我是瞎眼的，現在能看見了。」他們就問他：「祂向你做了些什麼？祂是怎樣醫好你眼睛的？」他回答說：「我已經告訴過你們了，你們不聽，現在又問，難道你們也想作祂的門徒嗎？」他們就罵他：「你才是祂的門徒！我們是摩西的門徒。我們知道上帝曾對摩西講話，至於這個人，我們不知道祂是從哪裡來的。」那人說：「祂開了我的眼睛，你們竟不知道祂從哪裡來，真是奇怪。我們知道上帝不聽罪人的禱告，只聽那些敬拜祂、遵行祂旨意者的禱告。從創世以來，從未聽過有人能把天生失明的人醫好。如果這個人不是從上帝那裡來的，就什麼也不能做。」法利賽人斥責他：「你這生來就深陷罪中的傢伙，居然敢教導我們！」於是把他趕了出去。

法利賽人說：「難道你們也被祂迷惑了嗎？哪有官長和法利賽人信祂呢？這群不明白律法的民眾該受咒詛！」曾經夜訪耶穌、屬於他們當中一員的尼哥德慕說：「難道不聽被告申辯，不查明事實真相，我們的律法就定祂的罪嗎？」他們回答說：「難道你也是加利利人嗎？你去查查看，就會知道沒有先知是從加利利來的。」

一位律法教師對耶穌說：「老師，你這話把我們也侮辱了！」耶穌回答說：「你們這些律法教師也有禍了！你們把沉重難負的擔子放在別人肩上，自己卻連一根指頭也不肯動。

百姓中有幾個法利賽人對耶穌說：「老師，你要責備你的門徒。」耶穌說：「我告訴你們，如果他們閉口不言，這些石頭都要呼喊了！」

公會採納了他的意見，於是把使徒召回來打了一頓，再次警告他們不可奉耶穌的名傳道，才放了他們。
