有許多猶太人來看馬大和馬利亞，要為她們兄弟的事撫慰她們。馬大一聽說耶穌來了，就去迎接他；馬利亞卻仍然在家裏坐着。

有一個人，伯大尼人拉撒路、正患着病；他是馬利亞和她姐姐馬大那村子的人。這馬利亞是那用香膏抹主，用自己的頭髮把主的腳擦乾的；她兄弟拉撒路病了。她姊妹兩個就差遣人去見耶穌說：『主啊，請看，你所愛的人病了。』耶穌聽見了，卻說：『這病不至於死，乃是為了上帝的榮耀，要使上帝的兒子藉着這事而得到榮耀。』耶穌素來深愛馬大和她妹妹跟拉撒路。

於是耶穌在逾越節前六天來到伯大尼、拉撒路所在的地方；拉撒路是耶穌從死人中所甦活起來的。有人就在那裏為耶穌豫備了晚飯；馬大服事着；拉撒路是同耶穌坐席的人之一個。當下馬利亞拿着一磅至寶貴至真的哪噠香膏，抹耶穌的腳，又用自己的頭髮去把耶穌的腳擦乾；屋子裏就滿了香膏的氣味。

還有幾個曾得治好、脫離邪靈和疾病的婦女：其中有稱為抹大拉的馬利亞、曾有七個鬼從她身上出來的、和希律的理事苦撒的妻子約亞拿、跟蘇撒拿和許多別的婦女、就是常用自己的資財供應耶穌和門徒的。

她和她一家既受了洗，就求我們說：『你們若以我為真信主的，就請進我家來住。』便強留我們。
