“到那日，圣殿的歌声必变为哀号；尸首众多，抛弃各处；你们要肃静。”这是主耶和华的宣告。

从前人烟稠密的城中，现在怎么竟然孤独地坐在那里。从前在列国中为大的，现在怎么竟然像个寡妇。从前在众省份中为王后的，现在怎么竟然成了奴隶。

他要无言独坐，因为这是耶和华加在他身上的。

他们必用麻布束腰，战兢把他们遮盖，各人的脸上满是羞愧，各人的头上都光秃。

通往锡安道路悲哀，因为没有人去守节。锡安一切的城门冷落，祭司唉哼，处女忧伤，锡安也受尽痛苦。

巴比伦的处女啊！你下来，坐在尘土中吧！迦勒底的女儿啊！你坐在地上吧！没有宝座了，因为你必不再被称为柔弱娇嫩的了。

约书亚就撕裂自己的衣服，和以色列人的长老，在耶和华的约柜前，一同俯伏在地，直到晚上，也把尘土撒在头上。

他玛把尘土撒在自己的头上，撕裂身上的长袖彩衣，又把一只手放在头上，一边行走一边哭叫。

那些从前吃美食的，现今都在街上孤单凄凉；那些从前在豪奢生活中长大的，现今却在垃圾堆中打滚。

我们为什么坐着不动呢？你们要集合起来，我们要进入坚固的城里去，在那里灭亡吧！因为耶和华我们的神要我们灭亡，又把毒水给我们喝，因我们得罪了耶和华。

于是希勒家的儿子管家以利亚敬、书记舍伯那和亚萨的儿子史官约亚，都撕裂衣服，来到希西家面前，把拉伯沙基的话告诉了他。

众长老不再坐在城门口；青年人不再唱歌作乐。

你们要哀号，像少女腰束麻布，为她幼年时许配的丈夫哀号一样。

“到那日，美丽的少女和青年男子都因干渴昏倒。

耶和华亲临（“耶和华亲临”直译作“耶和华的面”）分散他们，不再看顾他们；人不再尊重祭司，也不厚待长老。

他们必因你把头剃光，腰束麻布，为你痛心哭泣，苦苦悲哀。

为此，聪明人在这时代缄默无声，因这时代邪恶。

众领袖被敌人吊起来；长老也不受人尊敬。

“迦勒底的女子啊！你要静静坐下，进到黑暗中去，因为人不再称你为列国之后了。

他们又把尘土撒在自己头上，痛哭悲哀，喊着说：‘有祸了！有祸了！这大城啊！凡是有船航行海上的，都因这城的财宝发了财；一时之间她竟成了荒场！’
