因此我说：“要转开你们的眼，不要望着我，让我痛哭吧！不要因我人民的毁灭，而急急安慰我。”

我好像水被倾倒出去，我全身的骨头都散脱了，我的心在我里面像蜡融化。

我的肺腑，我的肺腑啊！我绞痛欲绝。我的心哪！我的心在我里面颤抖，我不能缄默不语。我的灵啊！我听见了号角的声音，也听见了战争的吶喊。

我因愁烦眼目昏花，因众多的仇敌视力衰退。

我的眼泪像江河流下，都因我的人民的灭亡。我的眼泪涌流不停，总不止息，直到耶和华垂顾，从天上关注。因眼见我城中众民的遭遇，我的心很痛苦。

那些死于刀下的比饿死的还好；饿死的因缺乏田间的出产，就日渐消瘦而死亡。慈心的妇人亲手烹煮自己所生的孩子；在我众民（“我众民”原文作“我子民的女子”）遭毁灭的时候，孩子竟成了母亲的食物。

夜里每到交更的时分，你要起来呼喊；在主面前你要倾心如水！你的孩童在各街头上因饥饿而昏倒，你要为他们的性命向主举手祷告。“耶和华啊，求你观看！求你鉴察！你曾这样对待过谁呢？难道妇人应该吃掉自己所生的，就是自己所抚养的婴孩吗？难道祭司和先知应该在主的圣所里被杀害吗？”

现在，耶和华万军的神以色列的神这样说：‘你们为什么自己招来这样的大灾祸，使你们的男人、女人、孩童和婴儿都从犹大中除灭，一个余剩的人也不留下呢？

就放声大哭，直哭到没有力气再哭。

我像燕子呻吟，像白鹤鸣叫，又像鸽子哀鸣。我的眼睛因仰望高处而疲倦；耶和华啊！我受欺压，求你作我的保障。

野狗尚且用乳房哺养它们的幼儿；但我的众民变得多么残忍，像旷野的鸵鸟一样。婴儿的舌头因干渴而紧贴上膛；孩童求饼，却没有人分给他们。

听啊！我同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的女子”）的呼救声，从遥远之地传来：“耶和华不在锡安吗？锡安的王不在其中吗？”“他们为什么以自己雕刻的偶像，和列国虚无的偶像，来惹我发怒呢？”“收割期已过，夏天也结束；但我们仍未获救。”因着我的同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的女子”）被压碎，我的心破碎了；我悲伤痛哭，惊慌抓住了我。难道基列没有乳香吗？难道那里没有医生吗？我的同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的女子”）为什么总不痊愈呢？但愿我的头是水井，我的眼是泪的泉源；我好为我同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的女子”）中被杀的，昼夜哭泣。（本节在《马索拉文本》为8:23）

耶和华啊！求你恩待我，因为我在患难之中；我的眼睛因愁烦昏花，我的身、我的心也都衰残。

日子将到，人必说：‘不生育的和没有怀过胎的，也没有哺养过婴儿的有福了。’

我因不住呼求而疲倦，我的喉咙发干；我因等候我的神，眼睛昏花。

“你要对他们说这话：‘愿我的眼泪直流，日夜不停；因为我的同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的处女”）遭受极大的毁灭，受到很严重的打击。
