The Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and He handed them over to marauders who raided them. He sold them to the enemies around them, and they could no longer resist their enemies.

For You are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil cannot dwell with You.The boastful cannot stand in Your presence; You hate all evildoers.

The wicked flee when no one is pursuing them, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

Even if they raise children, I will bereave them of each one. Yes, woe to them when I depart from them!

Be warned, Jerusalem, or I will turn away from you; I will make you a desolation, a land without inhabitants.

You must not bring any abhorrent thing into your house, or you will be set apart for destruction like it. You are to utterly detest and abhor it, because it is set apart for destruction.

Your eyes are too pure to look on evil, and You cannot tolerate wrongdoing. So why do You tolerate those who are treacherous? Why are You silent while one who is wicked swallows up one who is more righteous than himself?

Then Haggai asked,“ If someone defiled by contact with a corpse touches any of these, does it become defiled?” The priests answered,“ It becomes defiled.”Then Haggai replied,“ So is this people, and so is this nation before Me”— this is the Lord’s declaration.“ And so is every work of their hands; even what they offer there is defiled.

“ Now when these people or a prophet or a priest asks you,‘ What is the burden of the Lord?’ you will respond to them: What is the burden? I will throw you away”— this is the Lord’s declaration.

But your iniquities have built barriers between you and your God, and your sins have made Him hide His face from you so that He does not listen.

When the Angel of the Lord had spoken these words to all the Israelites, the people wept loudly.

and now, you would turn away from the Lord? If you rebel against the Lord today, tomorrow He will be angry with the entire community of Israel.But if the land you possess is defiled, cross over to the land the Lord possesses where the Lord’s tabernacle stands, and take possession of it among us. But don’t rebel against the Lord or against us by building for yourselves an altar other than the altar of the Lord our God.Wasn’t Achan son of Zerah unfaithful regarding what was set apart for destruction, bringing wrath on the entire community of Israel? He was not the only one who perished because of his sin.’”
