Israel has sinned. They have violated My covenant that I appointed for them. They have taken some of what was set apart. They have stolen, deceived, and put the things with their own belongings.

Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions.

They have taken some of the things that had been set apart to me in a special way to be destroyed. They have stolen. They have lied. They have taken the things they stole and have put them with their own things.

Israel has sinned and broken my covenant! They have stolen some of the things that I commanded must be set apart for me. And they have not only stolen them but have lied about it and hidden the things among their own belongings.

But the city and everything in it are set apart to the Lord for destruction. Only Rahab the prostitute and everyone with her in the house will live, because she hid the men we sent.But keep yourselves from the things set apart, or you will be set apart for destruction. If you take any of those things, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and bring disaster on it.For all the silver and gold, and the articles of bronze and iron, are dedicated to the Lord and must go into the Lord’s treasury.”

Achan replied to Joshua,“ It is true. I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel. This is what I did:When I saw among the spoils a beautiful cloak from Babylon, 200 silver shekels, and a bar of gold weighing 50 shekels, I coveted them and took them. You can see for yourself. They are concealed in the ground inside my tent, with the money under the cloak.”

“ Caesar’s,” they said to Him. Then He said to them,“ Therefore give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

The earth is polluted by its inhabitants, for they have transgressed teachings, overstepped decrees, and broken the everlasting covenant.

Gehazi came and stood by his master.“ Where did you go, Gehazi?” Elisha asked him.“ Your servant didn’t go anywhere,” he replied.But Elisha questioned him,“ Wasn’t my spirit there when the man got down from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to accept money and clothes, olive orchards and vineyards, sheep and oxen, and male and female slaves?

No creature is hidden from Him, but all things are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account.

“ If a man or woman among you in one of your towns that the Lord your God will give you is discovered doing evil in the sight of the Lord your God and violating His covenant

The Israelites, however, were unfaithful regarding the things set apart for destruction. Achan son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of what was set apart, and the Lord’s anger burned against the Israelites.

This one will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt— a covenant they broke even though I had married them”— the Lord’s declaration.

Then Peter said to her,“ Why did you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out!”

The Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and He declared,“ Because this nation has violated My covenant that I made with their fathers and disobeyed Me,

because they did not listen to the voice of the Lord their God but violated His covenant— all He had commanded Moses the servant of the Lord. They did not listen, and they did not obey.

If you break the covenant of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, and go and worship other gods, and bow down to them, the Lord’s anger will burn against you, and you will quickly disappear from this good land He has given you.”

“ Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me!” You ask:“ How do we rob You?”“ By not making the payments of the tenth and the contributions.You are suffering under a curse, yet you— the whole nation— are still robbing Me.

“ If someone offends by sinning unintentionally in regard to any of the Lord’s holy things, he must bring his restitution offering to the Lord: an unblemished ram from the flock( based on your assessment of its value in silver shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel) as a restitution offering.

This is what the Lord says: Where is your mother’s divorce certificate that I used to send her away? Or who were My creditors that I sold you to? Look, you were sold for your iniquities, and your mother was put away because of your transgressions.Why was no one there when I came? Why was there no one to answer when I called? Is My hand too short to redeem? Or do I have no power to deliver? Look, I dry up the sea by My rebuke; I turn the rivers into a wilderness; their fish rot because of lack of water and die of thirst.

I will send it out,”— this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts—“ and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name. It will stay inside his house and destroy it along with its timbers and stones.”

Won’t all of these take up a taunt against him, with mockery and riddles about him? They will say: Woe to him who amasses what is not his— how much longer?— and loads himself with goods taken in pledge.

“ Why wasn’t this fragrant oil sold for 300 denarii and given to the poor?”He didn’t say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief. He was in charge of the money-bag and would steal part of what was put in it.

But they, like Adam, have violated the covenant; there they have betrayed Me.
