that the mirth of the wicked is brief, the joy of the godless lasts but a moment.

Those who are evil are happy for only a short time. The joy of ungodly people lasts only for a moment.

that the exulting of the wicked is short, and the joy of the godless but for a moment?

the triumph of the wicked has been short lived and the joy of the godless has been only temporary?

the joy of the wicked has been brief and the happiness of the godless has lasted only a moment?

That the rejoicing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the godless momentary?

I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a native green tree.Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more; Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found.

“ This is the portion of a wicked man with God, And the heritage of oppressors, received from the Almighty:If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword; And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.Those who survive him shall be buried in death, And their widows shall not weep,Though he heaps up silver like dust, And piles up clothing like clay—He may pile it up, but the just will wear it, And the innocent will divide the silver.He builds his house like a moth, Like a booth which a watchman makes.The rich man will lie down, But not be gathered up; He opens his eyes, And he is no more.Terrors overtake him like a flood; A tempest steals him away in the night.The east wind carries him away, and he is gone; It sweeps him out of his place.It hurls against him and does not spare; He flees desperately from its power.Men shall clap their hands at him, And shall hiss him out of his place.

For what is the hope of the hypocrite, Though he may gain much, If God takes away his life?

“ The light of the wicked indeed goes out, And the flame of his fire does not shine.The light is dark in his tent, And his lamp beside him is put out.

Then the Philistines took him and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza. They bound him with bronze fetters, and he became a grinder in the prison.However, the hair of his head began to grow again after it had been shaven.Now the lords of the Philistines gathered together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice. And they said:“ Our god has delivered into our hands Samson our enemy!”When the people saw him, they praised their god; for they said:“ Our god has delivered into our hands our enemy, The destroyer of our land, And the one who multiplied our dead.”So it happened, when their hearts were merry, that they said,“ Call for Samson, that he may perform for us.” So they called for Samson from the prison, and he performed for them. And they stationed him between the pillars.Then Samson said to the lad who held him by the hand,“ Let me feel the pillars which support the temple, so that I can lean on them.”Now the temple was full of men and women. All the lords of the Philistines were there— about three thousand men and women on the roof watching while Samson performed.Then Samson called to the Lord, saying,“ O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God, that I may with one blow take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes!”And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars which supported the temple, and he braced himself against them, one on his right and the other on his left.Then Samson said,“ Let me die with the Philistines!” And he pushed with all his might, and the temple fell on the lords and all the people who were in it. So the dead that he killed at his death were more than he had killed in his life.

I have seen the foolish taking root, But suddenly I cursed his dwelling place.

Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction.Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.As a dream when one awakes, So, Lord, when You awake, You shall despise their image.

So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath subsided.

And the people kept shouting,“ The voice of a god and not of a man!”Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.

“ Behold, this is the joy of His way, And out of the earth others will grow.

“ Not everyone who says to Me,‘ Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

While it is yet green and not cut down, It withers before any other plant.So are the paths of all who forget God; And the hope of the hypocrite shall perish,

He will not be rich, Nor will his wealth continue, Nor will his possessions overspread the earth.He will not depart from darkness; The flame will dry out his branches, And by the breath of His mouth he will go away.Let him not trust in futile things, deceiving himself, For futility will be his reward.It will be accomplished before his time, And his branch will not be green.He will shake off his unripe grape like a vine, And cast off his blossom like an olive tree.For the company of hypocrites will be barren, And fire will consume the tents of bribery.

The enemy said,‘ I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, My hand shall destroy them.’You blew with Your wind, The sea covered them; They sank like lead in the mighty waters.

But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.

But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
