“‘ The people of Judah have done evil in my eyes, declares the Lord. They have set up their detestable idols in the house that bears my Name and have defiled it.

“ The people of Judah have done what is evil in my eyes,” announces the Lord.“ They have set up statues of their gods. They have worshiped them in the house where my Name is. They have made my house‘ unclean.’ I hate those statues.

“ For the sons of Judah have done evil in my sight, declares the Lord. They have set their detestable things in the house that is called by my name, to defile it.

“ The people of Judah have sinned before my very eyes,” says the Lord.“ They have set up their abominable idols right in the Temple that bears my name, defiling it.

“ For the Judeans have done what is evil in my sight.” This is the LORD’s declaration.“ They have set up their abhorrent things in the house that bears my name in order to defile it.

For the sons of Judah have done that which is evil in My sight,” declares the Lord.“ They have put their detestable things in the house which is called by My name, to defile it.

For the children of Judah have done evil in My sight,” says the Lord.“ They have set their abominations in the house which is called by My name, to pollute it.

For the children of Judah have done that which is evil in my sight, saith Jehovah: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

“ For the Judeans have done what is evil in My sight.” This is the Lord’s declaration.“ They have set up their detestable things in the house that is called by My name and defiled it.

For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.

The LORD says,“ I have rejected them because the people of Judah have done what I consider evil. They have set up their disgusting idols in the temple which I have claimed for my own and have defiled it.

“ For the children of Judah have done that which is evil in my sight,” says Yahweh.“ They have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

They set up their vile images in the house that bears my Name and defiled it.

They took pride in their beautiful jewelry and used it to make their detestable idols. They made it into vile images; therefore I will make it a thing unclean for them.

He built altars in the temple of the Lord, of which the Lord had said,“ My Name will remain in Jerusalem forever.”In both courts of the temple of the Lord, he built altars to all the starry hosts.

He took the carved Asherah pole he had made and put it in the temple, of which the Lord had said to David and to his son Solomon,“ In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my Name forever.

He built altars in the temple of the Lord, of which the Lord had said,“ In Jerusalem I will put my Name.”

He will confirm a covenant with many for one‘ seven.’ In the middle of the‘ seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.”

He took the image he had made and put it in God’s temple, of which God had said to David and to his son Solomon,“ In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my Name forever.

Then he said to me,“ Son of man, look toward the north.” So I looked, and in the entrance north of the gate of the altar I saw this idol of jealousy.And he said to me,“ Son of man, do you see what they are doing— the utterly detestable things the Israelites are doing here, things that will drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see things that are even more detestable.”Then he brought me to the entrance to the court. I looked, and I saw a hole in the wall.He said to me,“ Son of man, now dig into the wall.” So I dug into the wall and saw a doorway there.And he said to me,“ Go in and see the wicked and detestable things they are doing here.”So I went in and looked, and I saw portrayed all over the walls all kinds of crawling things and unclean animals and all the idols of Israel.In front of them stood seventy elders of Israel, and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan was standing among them. Each had a censer in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising.He said to me,“ Son of man, have you seen what the elders of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say,‘ The Lord does not see us; the Lord has forsaken the land.’”Again, he said,“ You will see them doing things that are even more detestable.”Then he brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and I saw women sitting there, mourning the god Tammuz.He said to me,“ Do you see this, son of man? You will see things that are even more detestable than this.”He then brought me into the inner court of the house of the Lord, and there at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men. With their backs toward the temple of the Lord and their faces toward the east, they were bowing down to the sun in the east.He said to me,“ Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a trivial matter for the people of Judah to do the detestable things they are doing here? Must they also fill the land with violence and continually arouse my anger? Look at them putting the branch to their nose!

“ Both prophet and priest are godless; even in my temple I find their wickedness,” declares the Lord.

The king ordered Hilkiah the high priest, the priests next in rank and the doorkeepers to remove from the temple of the Lord all the articles made for Baal and Asherah and all the starry hosts. He burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron Valley and took the ashes to Bethel.He did away with the idolatrous priests appointed by the kings of Judah to burn incense on the high places of the towns of Judah and on those around Jerusalem— those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and moon, to the constellations and to all the starry hosts.He took the Asherah pole from the temple of the Lord to the Kidron Valley outside Jerusalem and burned it there. He ground it to powder and scattered the dust over the graves of the common people.

He said:“ Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place for the soles of my feet. This is where I will live among the Israelites forever. The people of Israel will never again defile my holy name— neither they nor their kings— by their prostitution and the funeral offerings for their kings at their death.When they placed their threshold next to my threshold and their doorposts beside my doorposts, with only a wall between me and them, they defiled my holy name by their detestable practices. So I destroyed them in my anger.

He got rid of the foreign gods and removed the image from the temple of the Lord, as well as all the altars he had built on the temple hill and in Jerusalem; and he threw them out of the city.

He pulled down the altars the kings of Judah had erected on the roof near the upper room of Ahaz, and the altars Manasseh had built in the two courts of the temple of the Lord. He removed them from there, smashed them to pieces and threw the rubble into the Kidron Valley.
