“‘ Cut off your hair and throw it away; take up a lament on the barren heights, for the Lord has rejected and abandoned this generation that is under his wrath.

The Lord says to the people of Jerusalem,“ Cut off your hair. Throw it away. Sing a song of sadness on the bare hilltops. I am very angry with you. I have turned my back on you. I have deserted you.

“‘ Cut off your hair and cast it away; raise a lamentation on the bare heights, for the Lord has rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.’

Shave your head in mourning, and weep alone on the mountains. For the Lord has rejected and forsaken this generation that has provoked his fury.’

Cut off the hair of your sacred vow and throw it away. Raise up a dirge on the barren heights, for the LORD has rejected and abandoned the generation under his wrath.’

At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship

Shave your head in mourning for the children in whom you delight; make yourself as bald as the vulture, for they will go from you into exile.

How great is our shame! We must leave our land because our houses are in ruins.’”Now, you women, hear the word of the Lord; open your ears to the words of his mouth. Teach your daughters how to wail; teach one another a lament.Death has climbed in through our windows and has entered our fortresses; it has removed the children from the streets and the young men from the public squares.

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them:“ You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

Gaza will shave her head in mourning; Ashkelon will be silenced. You remnant on the plain, how long will you cut yourselves?

A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.

They are corrupt and not his children; to their shame they are a warped and crooked generation.

He answered,“ A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

Therefore the Lord rejected all the people of Israel; he afflicted them and gave them into the hands of plunderers, until he thrust them from his presence.

“ Take up a lament concerning the princes of Israel

In one month I got rid of the three shepherds. The flock detested me, and I grew weary of themand said,“ I will not be your shepherd. Let the dying die, and the perishing perish. Let those who are left eat one another’s flesh.”

Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation.

“ Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him:‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says:“‘ You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them,“ Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”
