“ So desert creatures and hyenas will live there, and there the owl will dwell. It will never again be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation.

“ Therefore wild beasts shall dwell with hyenas in Babylon, and ostriches shall dwell in her. She shall never again have people, nor be inhabited for all generations.

“ Soon Babylon will be inhabited by desert animals and hyenas. It will be a home for owls. Never again will people live there; it will lie desolate forever.

Therefore, desert creatures will live with hyenas, and ostriches will also live in her. It will never again be inhabited or lived in through all generations.

Therefore the wild animals of the desert with the wolves will dwell there. The ostriches will dwell therein; and it will be inhabited no more forever; neither will it be lived in from generation to generation.

但鵜鶘與箭豬要佔據那地，貓頭鷹和烏鴉必住在其中。耶和華必把混沌的準繩、空虛的線鉈，拉在其上。它的顯貴一個也沒有了，以致不能稱為一國，所有的領袖也沒有了。以東的宮殿必長荊棘，它的堡壘必長蒺藜和刺草；它要作野狗的住處，作鴕鳥的居所。曠野的走獸必與豺狼相遇，野山羊必呼喊牠的同伴；連夜間的怪物也必在那裡棲身，為自己尋找休息的地方。箭蛇要在那裡築窩、下蛋、孵蛋，並且聚子在牠的陰影下；鷂鷹也各與自己的伴偶，聚集在那裡。你們要查考和閱讀耶和華的書卷；這些都無一缺少，也沒有一個是沒有伴偶的，因為他的口（按照《馬索拉文本》，“他的口”作“我的口”；現參照《死海古卷》和其他古譯本翻譯）已吩咐了，他的靈已把牠們聚集。他也為牠們抽籤，他的手用準繩給牠們分地；牠們必永遠得著那地，也要世世代代住在其中。

它的城鎮變為荒涼，成為乾旱的地和沙漠，沒有人住在裡面，也沒有人經過。

有一位大力的天使，把一塊好像大磨石一樣的石頭，舉起來拋在海裡，說：“巴比倫大城也必這樣被猛力地拋下去，決不能再找到了！彈琴、奏樂、吹笛、吹號的聲音，在你中間決不能再聽到了！各樣手藝技工，在你中間決不能再找到了！推磨的聲音，在你中間決不能再聽到了！燈的亮光，在你中間決不能再照耀了！新郎新娘的聲音，在你中間決不能再聽到了！你的商人一向都是地上的大人物，萬國都因你的邪術受了迷惑。先知、聖徒和地上一切被殺的人的血，都在這城裡找到了！”

“人必不從你那裡取石頭作房角石，也不從你那裡取石頭作基石，因為你必永遠荒涼。”這是耶和華的宣告。

巴比倫必變成亂堆，成為野狗的巢穴，成為令人驚駭和嗤笑的對象，沒有人居住。巴比倫人必像少壯獅子一起吼叫，又像幼獅咆哮。

但你們的母親必極度羞愧，生你們的必受恥辱。看哪！她要在列國中淪為最弱小的，成為曠野、旱地、沙漠。”因耶和華的烈怒，巴比倫必沒有人居住，完全荒廢；每一個住過巴比倫的，都必因這地遭受的一切創傷而驚駭，並且嗤笑它。
