那時馬蹄沓沓，勇士急奔飛馳。

從但那裡聽見敵人戰馬的噴氣聲，全地因聽見壯馬的嘶鳴聲震動。他們來是要吞滅土地和地上所有的，要吞滅城和城中的居民。

戰車在街上狂奔，在廣場上東奔西馳；它們看起來像火把，跑起來像閃電。

馬的大力是你所賜的嗎？牠頸上的鬃毛是你披上的嗎？是你使牠跳躍像蝗蟲嗎？牠噴氣之威使人驚惶。牠在谷中扒地，以己力為樂，牠出去迎戰手持武器的人。牠譏笑可怕的事，並不驚慌，也不在刀劍的面前退縮。箭袋、閃爍的矛與槍，都在牠的身上錚錚有聲。牠震抖激動，馳騁大地，一聽見角聲，就不能站定。角聲一響，牠就說‘呵哈’，牠從遠處聞到戰爭的氣味，又聽見軍長的雷聲和戰爭的吶喊。

野狗尚且用乳房哺養牠們的幼兒；但我的眾民變得多麼殘忍，像曠野的鴕鳥一樣。嬰兒的舌頭因乾渴而緊貼上膛；孩童求餅，卻沒有人分給他們。

因為他的馬匹眾多，牠們揚起的塵土必遮蓋你；他進入你的城門，好像人進入已有破口的城，那時，你的城牆必因騎兵、車輪和戰車的響聲而震動。他的馬蹄必踐踏你所有的街道；他必用刀殺戮你的人民；你堅固的柱子必倒在地上。

鞭聲颼颼，輪聲轔轔，駿馬奔馳，戰車顛簸跳動。騎兵騰躍衝鋒；刀劍爍爍發亮，槍矛閃閃生光；被殺的人眾多，死屍成堆；屍體無數，眾人都被屍體絆倒。

你們中間溫柔嫩弱的男人，必敵視自己的兄弟、懷中的妻子和餘剩的兒女；甚至在你的仇敵圍困和窘迫你在各城裡的時候，他要吃自己兒女的肉，卻不肯分給他們任何人，因為他沒有甚麼剩下的。

馬匹啊，上前吧！戰車啊，狂奔吧！勇士啊，就是緊握盾牌的古實人和弗人，以及拉弓的呂底亞人哪，上陣吧！
