主耶和華又曰、爾雖以鹼水皂莢、洗濯厥身、然爾犯罪、黥墨之跡、終不能滅。

爾雖以皂莢、多用鹼水洗濯、爾罪之跡、終不能滅、仍露於我前、此乃主所言、

Although you wash yourself with soap and use an abundance of cleansing powder, the stain of your guilt is still before me,” declares the Sovereign Lord.

You might wash yourself with soap. You might use plenty of strong soap. But I can still see the stains your guilt covers you with,” announces the Lord and King.

Though you wash yourself with lye and use much soap, the stain of your guilt is still before me, declares the Lord God.

No amount of soap or lye can make you clean. I still see the stain of your guilt. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!

Even if you wash with lye and use a great amount of bleach, the stain of your iniquity is still in front of me. This is the Lord GOD’s declaration.

The LORD hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.

For mine eyes[ are] upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.

If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?
