They will sow wheat but reap thorns; they will wear themselves out but gain nothing. They will bear the shame of their harvest because of the Lord’s fierce anger.”

People will plant wheat. But all they will gather is thorns. They will wear themselves out. But they will not have anything to show for it. I am very angry with them. So they will be ashamed of the crop they gather.”

爾雖播種、不得刈穫、雖踐踐或作壓下同油果、不得油以膏身、雖踐葡萄、不得酒以飲、

爾播多穫少、食不得飽、飲不止渴、衣不得暖、工得其值、盛於漏破之囊中、

爾播種於田、播之多、穫之少、因被食於蝗、

我必懲罰爾、降爾以可驚之災、患癆患熱、致目倦心傷、播種徒勞、必為敵所食、

爾胡為以金以金原文作權銀購不足為食之物、胡為以勞而得者易不能使爾得飽之物、爾聽從我、可食嘉肴、得享肥甘、而中心歡暢、

眾民辛苦經營、悉為火所焚、萬族劬勞疲憊、俱屬徒然、皆萬有之主所命、

見良田荒蕪、其諸城邑傾圮於主前、皆因主之烈怒、

緣主之烈怒、平靜之牧場牧場或作草地俱毀滅、敵如猛獅、出自洞穴、殘忍暴虐、忿怒甚烈、使其土地荒蕪矣、

爾昔日所行之事、今日所恥者、獲何益益原文作果哉、因此事終致死亡、

其時人至禾場、望得二十束、惟得十束、人至壓酒處、望得五十普拉、普拉量酒之器下同惟得二十普拉、主曰、我使爾勤勞所種者、為風所暴、細弱枯槁、或被雹毀傷、爾猶不歸誠於我、此乃主所言、

望自諸山眾嶺得救乃徒然、以色列得救、惟恃主我之天主、我之列祖勤勞所得之羊群牛群、及其子女、自我立國立國原文作幼時下同以來、悉為可恥者吞噬、我儕自立國至今、我儕與列祖獲罪於主、我之天主、不聽主我天主之命、故我若臥於羞辱、恥辱蒙蔽我身、

下伊及求助、倚賴戰馬、因車乘眾多而恃之、馬卒甚強而賴之、不仰望以色列之聖主、不祈求主、是人也、禍哉禍哉、惟主至明、或作主有智慧必降災禍、不反覆其言、必興起而懲罰惡族、懲罰輔助行惡之人、伊及之眾、世人也、非神也、其馬、血氣也、非靈也、主必舉手、使來助者顛蹶、受助者傾仆、同歸滅亡、○
