那些日子，我也發現有些猶大人娶了亞實突、亞捫和摩押的女子為妻。他們的兒女有一半說亞實突話，其他就說他們民族的語言，他們卻不會說猶大話。我就責備他們，咒詛他們，擊打他們中間的幾個人，拔下他們的頭髮，叫他們指著神起誓，說：“你們決不可把自己的女兒嫁給他們的兒子，也決不可為兒子或為自己娶他們的女兒。以色列王所羅門不是在這些事上犯了罪嗎？在許多國中並沒有一個王能比得上他的；他蒙他的神所愛，神立他作全以色列的王，可是連他也被外族的女子引誘犯罪。難道我們要聽從你們，行這大惡，娶外族的女子為妻，對我們神不忠嗎？”

所羅門王除了法老的女兒以外，又寵愛許多外族女子，就是摩押女子、亞捫女子、以東女子、西頓女子和赫人女子等。關於這些國家的人，耶和華曾經吩咐以色列人：“你們不可與他們往來通婚，否則他們必會引誘你們的心，去隨從他們的神。”但所羅門深深愛戀這些女子。所羅門有妃七百，都是公主；有嬪三百。他的妃嬪使他的心偏離了神。所羅門年老的時候，他的妃嬪誘惑他的心偏離了神去隨從別的神。他的心不像他的父親大衛那樣完全歸於耶和華他的神。因為所羅門隨從西頓人的女神亞斯他錄，和亞捫人可憎的偶像米勒公。
