當夜，耶和華對基甸說：“取你父親的牛和另一頭七歲大的牛來，拆毀你父親的巴力祭壇，砍下壇旁的亞舍拉。

亞撒王也廢掉他的祖母瑪迦太后的位，因為她曾給亞舍拉做了可憎的像；亞撒把她那可憎的像砍了下來，搗得粉碎，燒在汲淪溪旁。

他們離棄了耶和華他們列祖的神的殿，去事奉亞舍拉和偶像。因為他們的罪，神的忿怒臨到猶大和耶路撒冷。

他把亞舍拉像從耶和華殿裡搬走，拿到耶路撒冷外的汲淪溪去，在汲淪溪把它燒毀，磨碎成灰，把灰撒在平民的墳墓上。

他重新建造他父親希西家拆毀的邱壇，又為巴力立壇，製造亞舍拉，並且敬拜和事奉天上的萬象。

“你只要自己謹慎，又要謹守你的心思，免得你忘了你親眼看見的事，又免得這些事在你有生之日離開你的心；總要把這些事傳給你的子子孫孫，

現在你要派人去召集以色列眾人和四百五十個巴力的先知，以及耶洗別供養的四百個亞舍拉的先知，都上迦密山來見我。”

亞哈又做了亞舍拉，亞哈所行的，惹耶和華以色列的神發怒，比他以前所有的以色列王更厲害。

“在你為耶和華你的神築的祭壇旁邊，不可栽種甚麼樹木，作亞舍拉。

他又打碎神柱，砍下亞舍拉，把死人的骨頭布滿那個地方。

他在位第八年，還是年幼的時候，就開始尋求他先祖大衛的神。到了第十二年，他就開始潔淨猶大和耶路撒冷，除掉邱壇、亞舍拉、雕像和鑄像。

他拆毀了祭壇，把亞舍拉和雕刻的偶像打碎，破碎了以色列全地所有的香壇，就回耶路撒冷去了。
