Whenever the Lord raised up a judge for them, he was with the judge and saved them out of the hands of their enemies as long as the judge lived; for the Lord relented because of their groaning under those who oppressed and afflicted them.

『因為永恆主見他人民的手力用盡、沒有剩下一人，連受束縛的帶得釋放的都沒剩下，就要為他人民行裁判，憐恤他的僕人，

儘你一生的日子、必沒有一人能在你面前站立得住；我怎樣和摩西同在，也必怎樣和你同在；我必不放開你，不丟棄你。

永恆主就後悔造了人在地上，心中憂傷。

然而他聽見了他們的喊求時，就看到他們於急難中。於是他為了他們的緣故就記起他的約，照他堅愛之豐盛而後悔；

上帝聽見他們的唉哼，就記起他的約來、他同亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各所立的約。

夜間主藉着在異象對保羅說；『別怕了，你只管講，不要緘默；因為我與你同在，必沒有人會襲擊你來苦害你；因為在這城裏、我有許多子民。』

上帝說：『我一定和你同在：你將人民從埃及領出來以後，你們要在這山上事奉上帝：這就給你做憑證是我差遣了你。』

永恆主啊，要到幾時呢？回心轉意，憐恤你僕人吧！

上帝看他們所作的，見他們回轉過來、離開他們的壞行徑，上帝對那災禍就改變心意：他說要降與他們的，如今也不降了。

以法蓮哪，我怎能捨棄你啊！以色列啊，我怎能把你交出啊！我怎能使你如押瑪！使你如洗扁哪！我的心在我裏面翻轉着，我憐愛之情一直熱起來。

我甚麼時候論到一邦或一國說，要拔除，要拆毁，要毁滅，我所論到的那一邦若轉回離開他們的壞事，那我就後悔我想要降與他們的災禍了。我甚麼時候論到一邦或一國說，要建立，要栽植，他們若行我所看為壞的事，不聽我的聲音，那麼我就後悔我所說要使他們得益處的福了。

以色列人就從他們中間除掉外族人的神，而事奉永恆主；因以色列人所遭遇的患難，永恆主的心就很着急。

約哈斯求永恆主的情面，永恆主就聽他，因為見以色列人所受的壓迫，見亞蘭王怎樣地壓迫他們。

永恆主說：『因困苦人受蹂躪，因貧窮人的哀唉哼，我現在要起來，把他安置於他所切慕的穩妥之地。』

儘約哈斯在位的年日，亞蘭王哈薛總是壓迫着以色列人。但是永恆主卻因他和亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各、所立之約的緣故，仍然恩待以色列人，憐恤他們，垂顧他們、不情願使他們滅絕，所以直到現在還沒有丟掉他們離開自己面前。
