But when the judge died, the people returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their ancestors, following other gods and serving and worshiping them. They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.

基甸一死，以色列人又變了節去服事眾巴力，並且以巴力比利土為他們的神。

以色列人又行了永恆主所看為壞的事：那時以笏死了。

儘約書亞在世的日子、又儘那些看見永恆主為以色列人所行一切大事的長老、儘那些比約書亞後死的長老在世的日子、人民都是始終事奉永恆主的。

那時人必稱耶路撒冷為永恆主的寶座；列國必聚集到那裏，為了永恆主的名的緣故他們必聚集到耶路撒冷；他們必不再隨從自己頑強的壞心思而行事。

儘約書亞在世的日子、又儘那些知道永恆主為以色列人所行一切之事的長老、儘那些比約書亞後死的長老在世的日子、以色列人都是始終事奉永恆主的。

耶何耶大死了以後，猶大的首領們來朝拜王；這時王就聽從他們。人們離棄了永恆主他們列祖之上帝的殿，去服事亞舍拉神木和偶像。因了他們這罪過，就有上帝的震怒臨到了猶大和耶路撒冷。

免致像他們祖宗、做頑梗悖逆的一代，做居心不堅定、心對上帝不忠實的一代。

你們祖宗的惡貫你們去滿盈吧！

於是地方太平四十年。基納斯的兒子俄陀聶死了。以色列人又行了永恆主所看為壞的事，永恆主就使摩押王伊磯倫強盛，來攻擊以色列人，因為以色列人行了永恆主所看為壞的事。

而你們呢，作壞事又比你們列祖更厲害；你們看，你們各人都隨從自己頑強之壞心思而行，不聽從我；

他們不斷地對藐視永恆主之話的人說：「你們必平安無事」；又對所有隨着自己頑強之心意而行的人說：「必沒有災禍會臨到你們。」』

因為占卜的罪乃和悖逆相同；拜家神像的罪愆就等於僭妄。你既棄絕了永恆主吩咐的話，永恆主也棄絕你為王。』
