And the people of Israel said to Samuel,“ Do not cease to cry out to the Lord our God for us, that he may save us from the hand of the Philistines.”So Samuel took a nursing lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. And Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him.

And Asa cried to the Lord his God,“ O Lord, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, you are our God; let not man prevail against you.”

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.And who is like your people Israel, the one nation on earth whom God went to redeem to be his people, making himself a name and doing for them great and awesome things by driving out before your people, whom you redeemed for yourself from Egypt, a nation and its gods?And you established for yourself your people Israel to be your people forever. And you, O Lord, became their God.And now, O Lord God, confirm forever the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house, and do as you have spoken.And your name will be magnified forever, saying,‘ The Lord of hosts is God over Israel,’ and the house of your servant David will be established before you.For you, O Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, have made this revelation to your servant, saying,‘ I will build you a house.’ Therefore your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you.And now, O Lord God, you are God, and your words are true, and you have promised this good thing to your servant.Now therefore may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. For you, O Lord God, have spoken, and with your blessing shall the house of your servant be blessed forever.”

And Hezekiah prayed before the Lord and said:“ O Lord, the God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth.Incline your ear, O Lord, and hear; open your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God.Truly, O Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their landsand have cast their gods into the fire, for they were not gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they were destroyed.So now, O Lord our God, save us, please, from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, O Lord, are God alone.”

and said,“ O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you.Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?And they have lived in it and have built for you in it a sanctuary for your name, saying,‘ If disaster comes upon us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you— for your name is in this house— and cry out to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.’And now behold, the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade when they came from the land of Egypt, and whom they avoided and did not destroy—behold, they reward us by coming to drive us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit.O our God, will you not execute judgment on them? For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession, saying,“ O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments,
