Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.”

So once more I will shock these people with many wonderful acts. I will destroy the wisdom of those who think they are so wise. I will do away with the cleverness of those who think they are so smart.”

“ Look among the nations, watch, and wonder marvelously; for I am working a work in your days, which you will not believe though it is told you.

For Yahweh will rise up as on Mount Perazim. He will be angry as in the valley of Gibeon; that he may do his work, his unusual work, and bring to pass his act, his extraordinary act.

Of Edom, Yahweh of Armies says:“ Is wisdom no more in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished?

He said,“ Go, and tell this people,‘ You hear indeed, but don’t understand. You see indeed, but don’t perceive.’Make the heart of this people fat. Make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and turn again, and be healed.”

We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don’t know where he comes from.”The man answered them,“ How amazing! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God, and does his will, he listens to him.Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of someone born blind.If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”They answered him,“ You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?” Then they threw him out.

For it is written,“ I will destroy the wisdom of the wise. I will bring the discernment of the discerning to nothing.”Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Hasn’t God made foolish the wisdom of this world?For seeing that in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom didn’t know God, it was God’s good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save those who believe.For Jews ask for signs, Greeks seek after wisdom,but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews, and foolishness to Greeks,but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God;

“ Won’t I in that day”, says Yahweh,“ destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mountain of Esau?

Jesus said,“ I came into this world for judgment, that those who don’t see may see; and that those who see may become blind.”Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said to him,“ Are we also blind?”Jesus said to them,“ If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say,‘ We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.

for I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see the things which you see, and didn’t see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and didn’t hear them.”

Yes, the stork in the sky knows her appointed times. The turtledove, the swallow, and the crane observe the time of their coming; but my people don’t know Yahweh’s law.“‘ How do you say,“ We are wise, and Yahweh’s law is with us?” But, behold, the false pen of the scribes has worked falsely.The wise men are disappointed. They are dismayed and trapped. Behold, they have rejected Yahweh’s word. What kind of wisdom is in them?

He takes the wise in their own craftiness; the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.

The princes of Zoan are utterly foolish. The counsel of the wisest counselors of Pharaoh has become stupid. How do you say to Pharaoh,“ I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?”Where then are your wise men? Let them tell you now; and let them know what Yahweh of Armies has purposed concerning Egypt.The princes of Zoan have become fools. The princes of Memphis are deceived. They have caused Egypt to go astray, who are the cornerstone of her tribes.Yahweh has mixed a spirit of perverseness in the middle of her; and they have caused Egypt to go astray in all of its works, like a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

saying,‘ Go to this people and say, in hearing, you will hear, but will in no way understand. In seeing, you will see, but will in no way perceive.For this people’s heart has grown callous. Their ears are dull of hearing. Their eyes they have closed. Lest they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, then I would heal them.’

Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Pause and wonder! Blind yourselves and be blind! They are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.For Yahweh has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes, the prophets; and he has covered your heads, the seers.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written,“ He has taken the wise in their craftiness.”

Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

The spirit of Egypt will fail within it. I will destroy its counsel. They will seek the idols, the charmers, those who have familiar spirits, and the wizards.
