But your sinful acts have alienated you from your God; your sins have caused him to reject you and not listen to your prayers.For your hands are stained with blood and your fingers with sin; your lips speak lies, your tongue utters malicious words.

Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the entire assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward the sky.

“‘ It then came about that just as I cried out, but they would not obey, so they will cry out, but I will not listen,’ the LORD LORD WHO RULES OVER ALL had said.

Terrors overwhelm him like a flood; at night a whirlwind carries him off.

When Solomon finished presenting all these prayers and requests to the LORD, he got up from before the altar of the LORD where he had kneeled and spread out his hands toward the sky.

“‘ But just look at you! You are putting your confidence in a false belief that will not deliver you.You steal. You murder. You commit adultery. You lie when you swear on oath. You sacrifice to the god Baal. You pay allegiance to other gods whom you have not previously known.Then you come and stand in my presence in this temple I have claimed as my own and say,“ We are safe!” You think you are so safe that you go on doing all those hateful sins!

Listen, O God, to my prayer! Do not ignore my appeal for mercy!

If I had harbored sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.

Lift your hands toward the sanctuary and praise the LORD!

Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, then you will stand outside and start to knock on the door and beg him,‘ Lord, let us in!’ But he will answer you,‘ I don’t know where you come from.’Then you will begin to say,‘ We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’But he will reply,‘ I don’t know where you come from! Go away from me, all you evildoers!’There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God but you yourselves thrown out.

He said to me,“ Do you see, son of man? Is it a trivial thing that the house of Judah commits these abominations they are practicing here? For they have filled the land with violence and provoked me to anger still further. Look, they are putting the branch to their nose!Therefore I will act with fury! My eye will not pity them nor will I spare them. When they have shouted in my ears, I will not listen to them.”

So I want the men to pray in every place, lifting up holy hands without anger or dispute.

For what hope does the godless have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?Does God listen to his cry when distress overtakes him?

“ But woe to you, experts in the law and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You keep locking people out of the kingdom of heaven! For you neither enter nor permit those trying to enter to go in.

I will wait patiently for the LORD, who has rejected the family of Jacob; I will wait for him.

When you pray, do not babble repetitiously like the Gentiles, because they think that by their many words they will be heard.

At the time of the evening offering I got up from my self-abasement, with my tunic and robe torn, and then dropped to my knees and spread my hands to the LORD my God.

Listen to this, you leaders of the family of Jacob, you rulers of the nation of Israel! You hate justice and pervert all that is right.You build Zion through bloody crimes, Jerusalem through unjust violence.Her leaders take bribes when they decide legal cases, her priests proclaim rulings for profit, and her prophets read omens for pay. Yet they claim to trust the LORD and say,“ The LORD is among us. Disaster will not overtake us!”
