So Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.

“ May the Lord, the God of the spirits of humanity, appoint a man over the congregation,who will go out and come in before them, and lead them out and bring them in, so that the congregation of the Lord will not be like sheep that have no shepherd.”So the Lord said to Moses,“ Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him;and have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and commission him in their sight.And you shall put some of your authority on him, so that all the congregation of the sons of Israel will obey him.Moreover, he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his command they shall go out, and at his command they shall come in, both he and all the sons of Israel with him, all the congregation.”Then Moses did just as the Lord commanded him; he took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation.Then he laid his hands on him and commissioned him, just as the Lord had spoken through Moses.

Now the men of Ephraim were summoned, and they crossed to Zaphon; and they said to Jephthah,“ Why did you cross over to fight against the sons of Ammon without calling us to go with you? We will burn your house down on you!”

He said,“ I have not brought disaster to Israel, but you and your father’s house have, because you have abandoned the commandments of the Lord and you have followed the Baals.Now then, send orders and gather to me all Israel at Mount Carmel, together with 450 prophets of Baal and four hundred prophets of the Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.”

And they abandoned all the commandments of the Lord their God and made for themselves cast metal images: two calves. And they made an Asherah, and worshiped all the heavenly lights, and served Baal.Then they made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire, and they practiced divination and interpreting omens, and gave themselves over to do evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking Him.So the Lord was very angry with Israel, and He removed them from His sight; no one was left except the tribe of Judah.

Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and lived there. And he went out from there and built Penuel.
